ARNIM ZOLA WAS ON A TRAIN and the Howling Commandos were going to capture him. Marta and Thomas had intercepted a radio conversation, telling them to the location of the train and when Dr. Zola would be on it. On the snowy mountain top, the Howling Commandos prepared for their mission.
Marta stood beside her fighter jet that she had landed on the mountain. Thomas was beside her, checking over his aircraft. Marta scratched the phantom itch on the back of her neck. Her double braids ending in two braided buns above it. She wore her black pants and grey jacket, the Ghost emblem on the sleeve of the flame resistant material.
She placed her rifle in her plane, knowing she wouldn't need it since she and Thomas were flying this mission. Her handguns were in her thigh holster, her utility belt filled with her explosives. Marta knew how tough this mission would be. She pulled her dog tags from under her jacket, holding them in her grasp tightly, closing her eyes and breathing in the snow around her. She loved snow.
Bucky grabbed Marta by the arm, carefully moving her over to where he stood by Steve. "Remember when I made us ride The Cyclone at Coney Island?" He asked, making Marta smile. The three of them had a great day all those years ago.
"Yeah, and I threw up?" Steve said, the three childhood best friends staring out at the snow covered train tracks below them.
"And I laughed?" Marta piped in. This was the most she had spoken to Steve outside of planning missions since December 18th.
Steve looked across Bucky to Marta. She was already looking at him. "This isn't payback, is it?" Bucky asked, and Marta and Steve quickly looked away from each other. Steve looked up at the zipline Thomas, Falsworth and Denier had set up.
"Now why would I do that?" Steve teased.
Marta chuckled quietly. "I would. I'm a very petty person." She looked over at her brother, both of them smiling.
"Believe me, I know." Bucky teased, hand on Marta's shoulder.
"Marta," Gabe Jones said, and Marta walked over to where he knelt with Morita, the two of them listening to the radio conversation on the nearing train. "You were right. Dr. Zola's on the train. Hydra dispatcher gave him permission to open up the throttle." Bucky and Steve approached as Marta put a headset to her ear, listening to the transmissions.
"Wherever he's going, they must need him bad." Marta said as Steve put his helmet on, walking towards Falsworth. Marta put the headset down, approaching her plane.
Falsworth put his binoculars down as the train rumbled, coming into view. "Let's get going, because they're moving like the devil." The main said, Thomas and Marta climbing into their fighter jets.
Steve started setting up his zipline handle as Marta's plane roared to life. She turned to Bucky. "Be careful. I mean it." She warned, strapping herself in and checking her radio.
Bucky chuckled. "Sometimes I think you need a reminder of who the older sibling is, little sister." He teased, Thomas's engine starting.
Marta looked over at her brother, blue eyes shining against the snowy landscape. "Remind me when we get back to base." She said, and Bucky saluted her before turning to Steve.
