I sit on a bench in the middle of the Quarter as Shaun sits down next to me with a slight frown but I don't say a word, just take a breath of fresh air.

"You came." I breath out.

"You called."

I nod, taking in the way his eyes flicker over my face, the way his fingers twitch slightly against his thigh.

"You don't have to do this." He says to me softly and I let out a deep breath as I feel my eyes start to burn, "But I do."

Shaun's frown deepens as he tries his hardest not to look at me until he loses the battle as he turns his head to me.

"Let me do it instead."

I turn to face him with a grateful smile on my face as a tear falls down my face, "I can't let you do that. Hope is my child and this is my mess that I made."

Shaun places a comforting hand on my back as I wipe away the tear. "You don't have to do this alone," he says, his voice low and soothing.

"All this is my fault." I tell him, being honest for the first time in days.

"What happened?" he asks softly, his eyes never leaving mine.

Shaun's hand tightens on my back as I confide in him.

"I made a mistake," I reply, my voice barely above a whisper. "I broke the ancestral connection that gave the Hollow a foothold to come back. I am the one who destroyed her body which gave her the power to get all her magic free from the bones which held her. My every decision has led to this happening. And I will be damned if I let someone else get hurt because of it."

Shaun didn't say anything, the silence between us only punctuated by the faint hum of the Quarter around us. His hand was still on my back, warm and solid, as if he could help shoulder the weight of my guilt.

"I am sorry to put you in the middle of this." I say, my voice barely above a whisper.

Shaun's expression softens as he looks at me, "Whatever you need from me, you have."
