-HER-

As soon as I heard the cries filled with terror, I sobered up quickly. I steadied myself on my feet and tried to look around to understand what was happening. People were leaving the clearing in the middle of the tribe where the celebrations had been going on, and instead, they headed towards the outskirts of the tribe.

I frowned, unable to realise what was happening. I scanned my surroundings again, looking for any source of the trouble, but I couldn't see anything. Instead, people were rushing away in one direction, so I decided to follow them, deeply puzzled.

I wanted to ask someone what was going on but couldn't communicate that. Fortunately, one of the women noticed my state and grabbed my arm before taking me with her towards where the crowd was headed.

I followed her, unsure if this was safe. There was terror and confusion in everyone's face, yet they all seemed to be headed towards the source of the trouble. We reached the base of the mountain where the caves opened.

The place was filled with flowerless and leafless trees. I found it odd how people seemed to be fixated on them. This bewildered me even more. Was this part of their tradition? I wished someone was there to explain everything to me, but as soon as I saw the bloody red flowers blooming on one of the trees, I understood what was wrong.

Someone terrible was going to happen or had happened. That was what the flowers signified. I recognised the trees immediately but couldn't remember their name due to my drunk state. People were gathered around that tree and talking about it with horror on their faces.

"Theresa," Alex found me just at the right time before I could look for him.

"What's happening?" I asked even though I could guess, but I wanted to be sure, just in case. He gave the crowd a dark look before answering, "They said something terrible is going to happen. Those flowers are a bad omen,"

"The Zanoba killed the woman," I reminded him, but he shook his head. I could tell that something was going through his head, but he didn't speak to me about it yet.

"So what are they going to do now?" I asked, and immediately, the chief found us.

"Are you two alright?" He asked, concerned.

"Yes, we are. What does this omen mean?" Alex asked the chief. I noticed how the chief nervously shuffled on his feat and licked his lips.

"One of the old ladies with the intuition says either a gipsy or a priestess was here," The Chief responded, and immediately, I felt Alex grow tense around me. I looked around, wondering if Vittoria had been there.

Technically, I was a priestess, too, but not as strong to cause things of this scale. As far as I was aware, only Vittoria was capable of doing this.

"A priestess," I gasped. Immediately, Alex threw his arm around me protectively and pulled me against his body until I was completely in his embrace.

"You don't have to worry about it, Theresa," He assured me, "No one can hurt you as long as I'm here,"

"I've already put my warriors to work. They're searching the tribe and the nearby area to ensure everyone is safe," The chief assured me, but I wasn't worried about a priestess or a gipsy. I was sure there were far graver things to be worried about, especially the desert whispering to me horrendous things at night.

I wondered if Alex would take it seriously if I were to explain it to him. Or would he think that I had lost my mind? I didn't feel like taking my chances right now.

"You must be tired. Please retire to your huts. We will take care of the rest," The chief told us before directing us back to the huts. One of the huts had already been prepared for me especially. Alex led me there.

I wanted to talk to him about this and warn him of something terrible slowly conspiring somewhere hidden from our eyes. I felt it in my bones, but every time I tried to talk about it, I was at a loss for words. This was frustrating me deeply.

I groaned as Alex took me into my little guest hut and started to lay out the mats for me.

"Is your head hurting?" He asked. "You drank a lot. I should've stopped you, but I loved the way you were enjoying yourself," He told me while pulling me on the mat with him. I lost my balance and landed on his lap hastily.

I shrieked, but before I could move away, he wrapped his arm around me and held me there. His hot breath fanned my neck meanwhile.

"You drank more than me. Why aren't you drunk? It's unfair," I groaned, resting my head on his shoulder. As the moment passed, I found it harder and harder to hold myself together.

He chuckled at my accusation.

"I have a fast metabolism. It'd take me at least a couple gallons to get as drunk as you, but even then, I'd be sober within half an hour," He spoke, and I noticed how his voice dropped in a low whisper gradually as if it was drifting away from me.

I gasped and held his arm tightly, nesting deeper into his lap.

"Theresa," He groaned, his hand slightly moving towards my breast. My breath hitched when I finally felt the result of my shuffling poking my hip. I'd have shied away if I weren't drunk, but I didn't.

I giggled and wiggled more, torturing him even more. But I stopped as soon as he growled behind me. I felt a shift in his aura before something dark washed over my senses. It took me a couple of moments to realise what was happening.

"My nasty mate," Spoke his deep and dark voice.

It was Drucaoth. Well, fvck.
