~~~Author's Notes~~~
I want to quickly start this chapter off by saying two things:
First. In case I haven't clearly stated, I own none of the maze runner series' original characters. All credits go to James Dashner. And any quotes and/or plots that go along with TMR book are all also James Dasner's.
Second. This chapter will probably confuse you. My apologies, I aimed big and kinda fell short, but I can't keep revising it. Just know that the Prologue part of this chapter is something that "Present-story Newt" does not remember. It's merely for the readers entertainment.
All of that being said, enjoy this update!! :D
~~~Newt's Pov~~~

"Where've you been, Newt? I was starting to wonder if you'd gotten stung by a griever too," Alby said half-jokingly, as I'd finally arrived at the boxhole.

"Sorry, I was talkin' to Brianne," I shook my head, trying to rid my mind of stress and worry.

How could Brianne have not heard the alarm? It was literally sounding as we'd spoken. Like how is that even possible? Isn't it just a noise?

"Well, that's no excuse, you're the last one here," Alby gestured to the amount of teens around us, "Almost thought about giving your job to Gally."

"Please," I rolled my eyes.

"What do ya' say, shall we open it up?" Alby asked, clapping.

I glanced down at the closed doors of the box, "Seems appropriate." With my sentence, the group fell silent, awaiting the arrival of our newbie.

Two Gladers moved the doors of the box open, revealing a teenage boy who was huddled up in the corner of the box with his hands covering his face to shield himself from the sudden light.

Everyone just stared for a few moments, but after that, multiple voices broke out.

"Look at that shank," Frypan said, shaking his head, "How. old is he? Ten?" He muttered sarcastically.

"Looks like a piece of klunk," Jonathan shouted, "Like literally, his hair is crap colored."

"Jonathan, you're hair looks like klunk too," Henry rolled his eyes.

This was customary for us and the newbies: if we got a girl, the whole glade would practically drool over her or envy her from the second she showed up. But if we got a boy, everyone would make fun of him.

"Hope you enjoyed the trip, Greenie! There's no way back," Someone else said.

"He's kinda hot tho," Andrea said to Clare, making me want to move this thing along faster, "My names Andrea, I'd happy to show you around!" She shouted at the boy.

"Alright, someone throw the rope down," I ordered, and one of the teens did as I asked.

The boy in the box hesitated, but only for a moment; he grabbed onto the rope and a bunch of us helped to pull him up.

Once he got both of his feet on solid ground, the crowd fell silent again as Alby said, "Nice to meet ya', shank. Welcome to the Glade."

The newbie didn't say anything as he rotated around in a circle taking all of this unfamiliar terrain in. I always felt bad for the Greenies when they first came here. I mean, it would be easy for me to laugh and make fun of him, like everyone else does, but I really feel for the new teens. It absolutely sucks when you're absolutely clueless as to where you are or even who you are. And so I want to really change that about the welcoming tour, since I'm now helping with that. I want to make sure that the Newbies feel comfortable and okay around us. I sure as heck didn't with Nick showing me around.
