I remember the day so vividly. Every detail has been harshly carved into my brain. For hundreds of years mankind has been trapped inside  walls that protect humanity from going extinct. The day that traumatized my brain took place nearly eight years ago. I remember writing in my journal. Alana is a five year old with midnight, black hair, with bright (e/c) orbs and adorable dimples that appear when she gives a shining smile. Alana has always been kind to people; she was never impolite. She was always willing to share and avoid conflict. As her elder sister, it's hard to believe she could be a perfect angel. So she would get extremely annoying. Besides that, she was my one and only friend.

As pitiful as that sounds, I've managed well. I have never been fond of engaging with people. I've always found it stressful. There have been times where I've cracked under the pressure just because an adult would ask my name. A question as simple as: "What's your favorite book?" would send me to tears. I never really knew why I couldn't formulate a proper sentence to someone who wanted to have a conversation. Though, thankfully my parents never pushed it. They would say that I was an extremely shy girl and proceed the conversation with the adult. That's why I've always been close to my sister. She has never poked or prodded at me when I told her I wasn't feeling it. For her age, she was very mature.

My family lives in the second wall, considered one of the safer living areas. Centuries ago, three goddesses formed walls to protect the people from the brink of extinction. Cina, Rose, and Maria protect humanity from the wild beasts called titans. They are savage, man eating machines. I lived in wall Ross, in the district known as Stonas.  Rose and Maria house people with less financial privilege. It's rare for someone to be in the most protected wall. My father provides the financial support to live in the protection. He is a part of the military police, serving alongside the Royal Family themselves. The Military Police are an elite group of soldiers that work alongside the king, punishing those who go against the law. They maintain order within the walls. According to my mother it is very hard for trainees to get the status of the military police. Only the top ten are allowed to work alongside the King.

I would like to be like my parents one day, working in the castle or in the MP. I have only once met the other commander of the three military branches. Though, I don't know their names. I just remember wincing and bawling my eyes out. I know they didn't mean to make me cry. That's just how I am. I ran to my mother, hiding behind her beautiful and large gown. I shoved my face into it shielding myself from the scary men. Oh dear, I've been rambling.

"(Y/n)! Come on! Let's play hide and Seek!" I feel my little sister tugging on my light blue skirt. I groan, closing the leather journal I was recently given.

I roll my eyes, tucking my journal away. "But why?" I whined to her, giving her a pouting look as I set my pencil down.

"Because it's fun you idiot!" She clamored, her eyes glistening with excitement.

"Fine!" I emit; crossing my arms. I smirked at my sister. Alana took the hint, and ran off with a shriek. I counted slowly, allowing her time to find a good hiding spot. Hide-and-seek with her has never been a challenge. Maybe the extra time will present that.

"Nine!" I shouted out loud, uncovering my eyes. I scanned the room unable to spot her anywhere. I smiled thinking that Alana had improved upon her hiding skills. In the corner of my eye I saw some movement. I have never liked losing so I pivoted in my spot turning towards the movement.

Just before I announced the final number I saw a hand flying towards my face. My blood ran cold and my heart sunk to the pit of my stomach. Who's hand is it? Was it my fathers? The large burly hand clapped over my mouth. I felt the presence of a male behind me; his breathing was very ragged. I let out a scream from behind his clammy collection of skin and bone. I could feel his hot breath fan across my nape.
