(Some notes to maybe consider: (H/n) Is horse name! As of right now you horse will be a certain color, later well; you'll see. Just leave it as is it's important!)
The walk was calming walk to the stables, but awkward. Levi's office was in a complete different area, slightly secluded and required a horse. Both Petra and I had to head to the stables.
"So (Y/n) how long have you been riding?" She asked mounting on her horse with the saddle on. I didn't both to saddle my horse up, I didn't even put the bridle on because I was to lazy.
"Are you sure that's safe? I mean, are you even that skilled?" Petra's voice was slightly concerned, I simply mounted my horse, giving it a light kick.
"I've been riding since training I guess. But I guess I'm just fairly squinted with them." I say smiling at her, giggling.
"Well, you sure are confident!" She smiles back, mounting her horse, directing her horse to turn towards me, "Shall me test those skills?" She gives me a wild smirk. I question her, about to protest.
"Ah, don't worry! It's literally down that trail! Lets race!" She lines up next to me. Suddenly instincts kicked in I was going to win. I felt the tension rise between us, and watch as some of the soldiers walked back and forth, the two us catching their attention.
"Ready!" Petra stated loudly. I shifted my weight off the horse's back. Squeezing my legs tightly to the horse's rounded belly was starting to cramp my legs but I knew with a better position the better the horse can move.
"Set!" Sighing, a slightly smirk rising to my face. I arched my eyebrows and averted my irises slyly. I tapped to get my horse's attention. On the tiniest tap his head darted upward he batted his head around, brushing his hoof across the stone floor. He let out a long neigh, swishing his tail violently.
"Go!" With the final word I wacked my legs and clutched my horse's hair tightly giving him leeway to move his head forward. I kept myself balanced on his back, moving with his movement.
"Come on slow poke you can do better!" Petra taunted. I swung my legs again prompting my horse to gallop faster. My eyes were slightly watering sue to the dust in the air and the speeds we were at. Then, I lost my balance. My butt collided with his, bouncing me forward. he missed a strides stumbling on his movements. Determination weld up in me and I found my center once again. This time my balance was perfect, the three spots that were supposed to be touching just barely touching. With that my horse gathered his strength sending his body forward. Unexpectedly there was a fallen tree on the trail and he just glided over it. The shift of weight wasn't even noticeable. I passed Petra with ease then, still a while to go. I let out a hefty laugh, as I passed her, finishing the race. I pulled my horse's mane to tell him to slow and he did. He abruptly stopped sliding forward, sending me flying in front of him, at the feet of a person's.
"Oh dear god, (Y/n)! Are you okay?" Petra quickly dismounted running to me." I hear someone scoff, and I look up. My vision was slightly blurred so I couldn't make out the features. I stood up holding my hand up to my head. Slightly shaking it to clear my vision. Then I saw it.
"Ah! Sorry, Sir!" I say, saluting the Lieutenant. The was Lieutenant Levi. He just scoffed, typical of him.
"What the hell were you doing?" He asks, his eyebrows narrowing together. Both Petra and I look at each other giggling.
"Racing." I say.
"Well It looks like you damn near got yourself killed! Don't be so careless, Cadet. Anyways, do you have my documents." He says sternly. Petra nods, handing him the documents. He and Petra conserve a bit and I walk to my horse. His lightly dappled coat was dirtied. The dust collected on his coat was thick.
"How 'bout a bath tonight?" I ask. (H/n) nickers in excitement. I laugh at him, turning around.
"(Y/n)? A word." A deep voice breaks me from my interaction with my horse. I turn, (H/n) resting his head on my shoulder, I pet his dart muzzle, hair nostrils flaring as he breaths.
"W-what about my horse, sir?" I ask, patting him.
"He's well trained enough to let you ride him bare back I'm sure he'll stay close." He ridicules. Nodding I pat him once more and Levi dismisses Petra. He and I enter the building, he directs me to his office. The place had a complete separate set of barracks, a small mess hall, and even a infirmary. Stepping up the stairs we finally enter a large office space. He tells me to sit and I do as he says.
"Lets get straight to business." Levi leans back on his chair, grabbing his cup of tea that was mysteriously placed on the corner. He sips it resting it softly back to the desk, "Why the hell are you here?"
His words shocked me. Clearing my throat I look down avoiding his eyes. This was a huge burden that was going to hunt me for the rest of my life! I was so close, too! How could I just fuck up so badly that it bumps me down and I don't get the opportunity to be selected! "I didn't make it." I mumble. My words were full of emotion.
"Speak up, brat." he interrupts.
"I didn't make it, Sir!" I blurt, standing up. The sound of the chair scrapping across the floor giving an ear piercing screech. Unexpectedly my emotions over flowed. I finally let out all my pent up frustration and sat down effortlessly letting tears out.
My dramatic scene there shocked Levi leaving him speechless. Nonetheless he kept his composure, taking another sip of his tea. "How? The superiors were impressed with your work, and your improvement. During some of the meetings that I attended along side Erwin you were brought up frequently. In most of them Sadies was pretty set on giving you a top ten spot." He explains his voice monotone yet the slight hint of suspension was evident. Sighing audibly he leaned forward. "Even after your injury he even mentioned that he wasn't going to have it affect your grade. Was it academics?" He questioned.
"No, sir. I mean I wasn't tip top perfect, but I was definitely passing!" I reason, "Trust me, I'm devastated and choosing the Survey Corps wasn't the best option either. I did it last minute because I thought I was surely going to make it, and join the MP. I was so determined! I was right there, sir! I was so damn close to see my father again!" I pound my fist on his desk. Again, he showed no sympathy or empathy. He calmly drank from his cup.
"Cut the sir, shit you know me well enough to call me by my name. But watch your mouth around others, they might see is as disrespectful or rude if you call me by my name. Anyways, don't lose sleep over it, just train and be careful. Don't pull foolish stunts such as what you did today with that stupid race. Make smart decisions, brat." I nod my head.
"You're dismissed. You have late night training right?" I nod again, leaving his office. Venturing downstairs, I see Petra interacting with males. Currently uninterested with conversation quickly leave the area. Mounting (H/n) I walk the rest of the way back clearing my mind of everything that's occurred today.
Reaching the stables I gave (H/n) the bath I promised him. I made it fairly quick because I needed rest. It was maybe mid-day, and training wouldn't be late dusk. Rewarding him a treat I scurried back to my room. Resting my tired body for the first time in a brand new place.
