AHANA

"Namaste Uncle and Aunty, meet Mr and Mrs Mishra, my parents," I spoke, doing a huge favor by breaking the awkward silence between us. His parents greeted back.

"Namaste! I'm Vansh... these are my parents... This one is Siddharth, my brother... my younger brother... Eighth class," he quickly added like it was first class information that my parents needed to know. I mentally facepalmed. Way to make a first impression, Vansh Baweja.

"Nice to meet you people. Vansh, right? I've heard about you-" Mom trailed off, racking her brain, probably searching for the right words to say. "Wasn't Vansh Pragya's friends who ignored you because of her?"

My mouth fucking dropped. I wish it would drop to the ground because I was that shocked. Her mouth literally had no filter.Saying anything she liked was one of her worst habits. It's like her mouth and brain worked together at the same time. Out of fifty things I told her about Vansh, she picked out this. Way to make the worst first impression Ma.

"Whatever are you talking about, Mrs Mishra?" Mrs Baweja questioned politely, her brows slightly creased. Holy crap, this didn't look good. I turned to Papa with the most pitiful face I could muster. Papa, I beg you, do something about this woman of yours.

"Actually there was a time when his friend-"

Mom was cut off by Papa's laughter while the rest of us looked at him blankly. He placed an arm around my mother, "she must be talking about the time when your son tricked our daughter. I've heard he's very active and loves to... uh, prank? I'd say it's cool. After all, this is the time of youth," he said, shooting a smile towards Vansh.

At that Mr Baweja chuckled, "Agreed, Mr Mishra. They say, youth is the kind of fountain you would never regret to take a leap on, no matter the consequences."

Papa made a small 'o' with his lips. "Oh, who quoted that?"

"Me," he answered, pointing his hand to himself like he was the author behind Harry Potter. I know I was exaggerating but that's what it seemed like. In this case, like son, like father.

Papa let out a surprise laugh. "Good one," he stated nodding while Vansh's father grinned back at him. Soon our respective fathers started firing questions at each other. There seemed to be a nice vibe going on between them. Men do have the ability to get friendly rather quickly. A smile made it's way to my face as I watched them. When I turned to our mothers however, my smile disappeared.

Both of them were exchanging looks between their husbands and their surroundings while purposely  avoiding each other. They didn't looked like they were up for an introductory chat. Vansh turned to me with a questionable look, silently seeking an answer out of me but I was just as clueless as him. I shrugged in return.

"Quite a big university, this is," Mom started and I had the urge to pat her back for starting the conversation.

"It is. Are you visiting here for the first time, Mrs Mishra?" Mrs Baweja asked sweetly. I flinched even though the question wasn't directed at me. I stole a quick glance at Vansh who was quietly working his fingers on his mobile screen.

"Yes. I'm a working woman. We can hardly find time to travel the other side of the globe, you see. But I somehow did and here I'm today," She reasoned and I mentally facepalmed.

"Oh," Mrs Baweja said with her brows slightly raised. Her 'oh' sounded quite anticlimactic for some reason which scared me.

"Ma," Siddharth intervened, making everyone divert their attention to him. At that instant, he became my savior for the obvious reasons before he opened his big, fat mouth to make matters more worse. "Do you know, the girl Vansh bhaiya dates is studying in this college too?"
