*Luke's POV*

I woke up Friday morning and went to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day.

After I was cleaned and dressed, I headed downstairs to get some breakfast before I had to leave and go pick up Avery and head to school.

"Morning, Luke." My mum said when I entered the kitchen.

"Good morning." I said and opened the refrigerator to get some juice.

"There are some muffins in the oven, if you're hungry. I know you like them warm."

"Okay." I nodded and headed to the oven to grab one; blueberry, my favorite.

"She's really pretty by the way."

I took a bite of my muffin. "Who?"

"Your girlfriend. Well I assume she's your girlfriend since you two were holding hands."

"Oh yeah, she is. To both things you said." I couldn't tell her we were only pretending to be together, that'd sound extremely messed up. Avery wasn't bad on the eyes, either.

I finished my breakfast and put my glass in the sink. "Well I'm gonna go now, I'll see you later." I went over and kissed her cheek.

"Have a good day." She said as I walked out of the kitchen.

"Okay." I called as I picked up my bag and headed out the door. I took my keys out of my pocket and unlocked my car door, soon starting it up and pulling out of the driveway.

Yesterday was good and things were going as they should. Going off of what Avery said, Brooke seems to be warming back up to me and we could be together again in no time. I never thought I'd be the type of guy to try so hard for a girl but Brooke is special and I wish I had realized that before I lost her. Hopefully she can see how good I am with Avery and will be able to tell that I've changed. Obviously this is just for show but I plan on being like this with her and more. I'd do whatever it takes to make her happy; she deserves it.

I pulled up to Avery's house and called her to let her know I was outside. She didn't pick up but I just shrugged it off thinking she'll see the call and come out soon.

About five minutes passed by and she still hadn't come out or sent a text saying she would be out soon. I was about to head up to the door to see what the hold up was when the door finally opened and she came out.

She was in a black hoodie and black jeans and climbed into my car without a word. I pulled off and let the car stay silent half way through our ride.

"Are you okay?" I asked and glanced over at her.

"I'm fine." She mumbled and continued to look out the window.

I left it at that for the rest of the ride to school, but I couldn't help but feel curious. She's not usually this silent and moody in the morning. I don't know if she's actually upset about something or if it was that thing girls have every month.

We arrived at the school and not even a second after I parked my car and turned it off, she was closing the door and heading to the school.

"Hey, wait up." I said. She was walking fast but in a few swift strides I was able to catch up and stand in front of her so she couldn't go anywhere. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." She stated.

"Oh c'mon, you and I both know that's a lie." I tried to look her in the eye but she had her hood pulled low over her face. "You know you can talk to me, we're friends."

I tried to put my hand on her shoulder but she flinched away.

She sighed. "I'm fine, Luke, really. You don't have to pretend to care."
