Chapter 8

Everything was slightly fuzzy when I woke up again. I squinted as the bright lights blinded me. When my eyes adjusted I saw a white ceiling. I rolled onto my side and saw a large bouquet of red roses. I pushed myself into a sitting position and put a hand to my head. I had a killer headache. I looked around and saw that I was in some sort of hospital. All the beds were the same pink as the ones in my bedroom but the one I sat on was black.

When I raised my hands I saw that I was wearing black leather gloves. My head cocked to the side and I looked around. "She's awake!" Someone squealed.

"Calm down Fauna!" Another person scolded before walking over to me. She was a fairy with a red dress on and a large smile. "Good morning sweetie. I'm Flora" she pointed to another fairy in a green dress "Thats Fauna over there and the fairy behind her is Merryweather" I looked over Fauna's shoulder to see a shorter fairy with a blue dress on. She was sweeping up a broken glass vase.

"Like the fairies in Sleeping Beauty?" I said. My voice sounded funny and my throat hurt. I rubbed my neck and frowned.

"Exactly! Now you're going to feel a little bit funny today but you should be fine after that" Flora said.

I couldnt move my fingers much in the gloves so started to take them off when Merryweather ran forward and grabbed my hands. "Please no!" I stared at her shocked but left the gloves where they were.

"Please keep the gloves on. You woke up a few times and got scared. Your ability is still malfunctioning. We think you overused it yesterday." Flora said smiling. She picked up a corner of my sheet and showed it to me. "It kept going off so we put the gloves on you"

"Sorry about that" I said quietly as I stared at my hands.

"I have something that will make you feel better! I know how you liked your black dresses so I made you one!" Fauna said smiling and clapping her hands. She ran to the end of the bed to a brown leather box and opened it. She pulled out a simple black dress and I smiled.

"Thank you!" I said as I jumped out of the bed. When I bare feet hit the ground I wobbled slightly but Flora helped me get my balance and I took the dress from Fauna.

"You can get changed in the bathroom. But be quick! You have class in 10 minutes! I believe its the first day for the Games" I nodded and scurried into the bathroom and pulled the dress over my head. I looked at my bare feet and frowned. I opened the door and opened my mouth when Merryweather butted in. "At the door" I looked to see my combat boots facing the door. "Thank you again!" I said as I slipped them on and ran down the stairs.

I was going to be late and my class was outside. I sprinted across the main hall and out a side door. I looked around and saw a group of students at the bottom of the hill. I ran down and slipped into the crowd just as the teacher arrived.

She had red curly hair and a bow on her back. "Welcome! To Day 1 of the Games!" She had a thick Scottish accent and I smiled. "Im Merida! And I will be judging today! For all of you who dont know what the Games are, the Games are a weekly event that puts you all against challenges! The winners will pass to the next week's Games! In the last week of term there will be 10 students left, 5 boys and 5 girls, and you will go against eachother. The winner or winners are those who come out at the end. They will become our champions! To find out what happens when you become a champion you need to win! But Im promised its worth the fight! In past years our champions have put everything on the line to win and I'm sure you lot will be no different!" She smiled

"Week 1 is the easiest. You will be against these little guys" She waved her hand and 4 goblins appeared. "5 of you will go at a time and you must all defeat 1 goblin! Of course 1 of you will not be able to and you will be eliminated! There are 100 of you here today but by next week only 80 of you will still be here! Abilities are allowed to be used! Dont worry about hurting the goblins they aren't real but they will hurt you if they get a good shot at you"

I smiled at looked over at the boys but couldn't see anyone I recognised. I frowned and turned back to Merida. "Have a seat and you will be called up!" She shouted and everyone had a seat on the hill. I sat down behind everyone and stared at my hands and debated whether or not to take off my gloves.

I heard someone sit down beside me and turned to see Jasper. I groaned "What do you want?" I scowled at him.

He laughed "Quite a show you put on yesterday. Freaked Jake out quite a bit. He came to see you and when he came back he seemed a bit strange. Care to tell me why?"

"I dont remember anything that happened after I collapsed" I said truthfully.

He laughed again "Lets ask him then" he said pointing to Jake who sat at the other side of me. "So Jake what happened at the infirmary yesterday?"

Jake scowled at him and then looked at me "You dont remember?" I shook my head and watched as the first five students stepped up. "Well they rushed you to the infirmary and the fairies tried to figure out what had happened. There was a blonde girl there as well. Her name was Lexi I think" I nodded "But she left quite quickly. I stayed and then you sat up and screamed. The fairies ran over and you grabbed the sheets of the bed and they turned black. They put a spell on you and you went back to sleep. They sent me away but I came back a few hours later with some flowers. Merryweather was cleaning up and Flora was trying to turn the walls back to white as you'd turned a few black. I came over and you shot me" I couldnt help but laugh.

"Sorry. I wasnt in control of my actions" I giggled as I imagined myself doing all these things. The fact that I couldn't have actual memories upsetted me. 

"No problem. Fauna told me that there was a slim chance that you were concious during it all. They said that you basically overheated" he said.

Jasper laughed "Good luck with her" he said as his name was called up and he went back down the hill.

I watched as a short girl sat by herself on another hill. "Thats where the students who lose go" Jake said to me. "Nice gloves" he raised an eyebrow.

I laughed "So I want to know more about the school" I said as I crossed my legs.

"Okay. Well it was opened 10 years ago by Mr Jones aka Killian Jones but you'll know him as Captain Hook"

"He doesnt look like I would have imagined and why would he start a school?"

"You see after Peter Pan's story ended Mr Jones met someone and had a daughter. Her name was Willow. Her mother died just after she was born so Hook returned to Neverland to look after her. 5 years later Pan found out about her and took her during the night. He told Hook that he would take her somewhere that she would be safe as Hook wouldnt be able to do so. He took her to a world without magic and found a family that would look after her." He smiled as he saw Mr Jones watching from a window.

"A year later Hook started a school. Every year he took children from the world without magic to try and find his daughter. She would have been 16 like us by now" he frowned "He got Miss Darling to be Head Teacher as Hook only liked Willow and no other children. Pan and Wendy had a son who still goes to this school. His name is Felix. He is the same age as Willow and he gets special treatment from his parents"

"Sounds horrible. Poor Mr Jones. Do you think he'll ever find Willow?"

"People say its why he holds the Games every year. You see he taught her how to fight when she was younger"

"I hope he finds her"

"I would hate to not know who my real parents were..." Jake added and I looked at the ground and played with the grass "Whats wrong?"

"I dont know who my real parents are..." I trailed off "It's not possible is it?" I looked at Mr Jones.

Jake raised an eyebrow. "I guess we'll have to find out" he smiled mischeiviously and I laughed...
