True, Shadowed Love

A love poem does not need to be long and flowery.
It doesn't need all the bells and whistles,
Nor does it require the sugary sweet scent,
Of the rose without its thorns.
Looking at each other isn't as important,
As looking in the same direction.
It's not like you can choose who you fall in love with.
Sometimes the subtle beauty need only be short,
Accentuating the meaning behind every single word.
You don't need to abolish all the shadows,
As that's where the true meaning lies.
Hidden from all the pretenders,
Safe from the dogs who only go for the bones.
All you need are the three most important words,
The ones that tell the real story.
Don't hide them, nor mask them with hollow phrases,
Simply let them accompany the pure message;
'I love you.'
A/N: My attempt at writing a love poem, which isn't very easy as I can't exactly draw inspiration from firsthand experience. Based on Zombie-Maniac's Lucy Loud fan fiction, and the amazing poem in it. Normally I don't derive inspiration from romance like this, so this is kind of new territory for me. I hope you enjoyed it, shoutout to all my loyal readers, and please vote and/or comment. Bye! :) <3
