Empty Words

It's a story I've come to live with.
The awkward silence hanging thick in the air,
And I search for something, anything,
To break it.
It's already fizzled out,
Like a fire slowly dying.
It's almost frustrating;
I see others talking just fine,
Why is it different with me?
People always say 'think before you speak',
But I should really speak before I think.
I can't help but hold back,
But then the hesitation stretches into silence,
And you give me that glance.
I try not to disappoint,
But it's always at the back of my mind.
What if I say the wrong thing?
Then it's out there,
For the world to hear.
And nothing I can do,
To undo the damage.
So my words may be few and far between,
But at least you know I always think,
About what I say.
But sometimes I just need to break the silence,
So just don't mind those hollow words.
In the end I can only try,
And hope for the best.
A/N: Dedicated to the amazing margot_bettles, as she came up with the idea for this update. This is a poem that, unfortunately for me, is very true, and is a daily struggle I have come to accept. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it, and it cast some form of magical effect on you. Please vote and/or comment and thanks for reading. Have a great day, wattpadians. <3 :)
