Word Therapy

You took my hand,
And pulled me from my seat,
You knew just how to sweep me off my feet.
Yet as our fingers intertwined,
I had no idea what I'd left behind.
You claim to care,
Say you'll always be there,
By my side.
But I couldn't believe you,
Even if I tried.
I remember a time,
When I thought this was fun,
But the curse had only just begun.
Broken mirrors, shattered glass,
I didn't know that was just the start.
Shackled down, wrists tied,
I couldn't bear to think that you'd lied.
But my soul still longs for your touch,
Despite trying to convince myself such.
You may as well take my heart,
Because I can't let you tear me apart.
Every corner I turned,
No matter how far I run,
You'd be waiting,
The damage cannot be undone.
This was your plan all along,
But there was something that went wrong.
You abandoned me to starve to death,
But I knew that wouldn't be my last breath.
All it took was distance,
A little time to heal.
You didn't count on my persistence,
To get past your hideous ordeal.
I don't have to put up with another throe,
As I've moved on from all those years ago.
You don't need my forgiveness,
As we have no unfinished business.
Pain is only temporary.
I'm not a child,
You can no longer scare me.
A/N: I was feeling a bit down in the dumps today, so I decided to just try and write my feelings out, and somehow ended up with this. 'Pain is only temporary' has been my mantra for the past few days, and I think it's a very true statement. Do you guys agree? Let me know down in the comments.
