"I'll call you back ok? I think someone's coming..." I say into the phone

"Alright, I love you. Remember ok?" He says

"Yes. I love you too" I reply, before hanging up the phone

"Who was that on the phone?"

I turn around to find my sister entering our condo, backpack in hand.

"Umm.. Mom?" I say, not meaning for the response to sound like a question

"Ok"

Phew... she almost caught me.

I turn back to the stove, shovelling dried spaghetti into the pot of boiling water.

"So what did she say?" Rey inquires

"Just that her and dad were gonna be home late again..." I lie

"Oh.. because Mom and Dad are always at work late. They never usually call to tell us.." Rey says, picking at my lie

"Oh well sh-" and I'm cut off by the sound of the front door opening again

"Maybe if you drove a bit safer there wouldn't be a huge dent in our brand new Porsche!" Mom shouts

Turning back around, I close the gas on the stove and move to the sink to drain the water.

I quickly set up dinner and take my plate to my room to eat.

I never liked to be at the table when my parents fought.

Quietly, I close the door to my room, only for it to be open again once I shut it.

"Ok spill it" Rey says

"Spill what?" I say trying to sound clueless

"Who was on the phone?" Rey demands

"Wha..What, no one" I lie again

I've never been the best at lying to be honest.

"Sure it was. Now hand over the phone" Rey says, sticking her hand out
