Escape Routes

Location: Bolzano Italy 

Time: 4 a.m

1 day before the wedding...

I woke up the next morning hearing the blaring sounds of fire trucks and police cars making their way towards the house. The flashing blue, red, and white colours made their way into the room, blinding my eyes with the brightness. She did it. Carolina got the police to come and rescue me

"Charlotte we need to get out of here fast" Romano says in a panic pulling me out of bed and dragging me down to the basement

"Why what are we doing?" I ask him doing my best to play dumb. Of course I knew what he was doing. I wasn't exactly clueless but I had to make him think I was. He's trying to save his ass and get away without the police knowing and bringing me along on this wild goose chase with him 

"Come on. We need to get away before they find you and take you away from me" he says 

While we're in the basement, I watch as he moves to one of the walls and move a giant painting only to reveal a trapdoor. Are you kidding me? I could've just escaped through the trapdoor! Anyways...

He pulls the latch off of the wooden door revealing a secret passageway

"I knew this would come in handy. Now come on Charlotte, we need to get out of here before they come take you away" he says in panic 

But I don't want to go with you

I want them to take me away from you 

"Charlotte please!" he screams tears forming in his eyes 

Think fast Charlotte come on....

"I-I-I'm scared" I stutter out not knowing what else to say

Truth be told, I was more than scared

I was terrified 

I hear the sound of the door to the house opening and sound of feet scattering along the upper floor. To me it sounds that at least 10 police officers are in the house. I can't go with him, but he thinks I love him. Do I still need to keep up this act or can I run? 

The door to the basement suddenly flings open and police officers start coming down the stairs 

"Charlotte sweetheart I'm sorry but we need to go" Romano says before grabbing my head and slamming it against the cement wall, knocking me out cold

Everything was black and head was pounding with the biggest headache ever. Where am I? What happened? What's going on? 

"Charlotte I'm sorry I had to hurt you sweetheart, but we're safe now. I know spending the night before our wedding in a car on the outskirts of town isn't the most romantic but I couldn't let them take you away from me" I hear him say
