CHAPTER 68 – A SECOND CHANCE

The next day I got dressed for school with a heavy heart.

No matter how much I caked my face for an hour in front of the mirror, the dark circles under my eyes were still noticeable and betrayed my lack of sleep. I looked like a mess and quite frankly... I was one.

Annabelle was leaving today. It was her last day in Oakheart.

And if this was a different situation, say she wasn't forced to leave or she wasn't pregnant to begin with... I would be happy to see her fly away to another place.

But she was leaving me. How could I be happy about that?

I skipped breakfast, not feeling like eating anything and left as early as possible along with Seth, who was in an awfully good mood unlike me.

"So how come and you're taking me to practice?" He asked as I drove us to the country club.

I shrugged "I mean, why not?"

"Are you and Ryder meeting somewhere or...?"

I frowned confused "No, why?"

"I just thought that maybe that was the reason you woke up this early to take me to practice." He shook his head apologetically "I'm sorry, I'm just really surprised."

"I just figured we should spent some more time together Seth." I half lied.

Truth was I did want to spend some more time with my brother. With him going back to school in a couple of days, I wanted to see how he was holding on. His adjustment back to school was surely going to be hard.

He nodded, looking out of the window and sighing "Right."

I shoot him a glance "Is Something wrong?"

He shook his head "No. I just... I'm not really looking forward going back to school."

Couldn't blame him. To be honest I wasn't looking forward for his return either. Before his overdose Seth had distanced himself from everyone, even Ryder's friends. It was going to be a hell for him to come back to school and try to fit in again. The Oakhearters would definitely not accept him after they found out about his drug problem and no matter how much my parents tried to fix things, nothing would be the same from now on.

"Hey." I said bumping my shoulder to his "Everything's going to be okay." I lied "I'll be there." Which was only but true.

I knew better by now not to ignore my brother and distance myself from him. From now on I would be as close to him as possible and listen to his problems, something that I surely should have done a long time ago but it was never late.

"Yeah." He said not looking like agreeing.

Soon enough we made it to the country club and Seth left immediately for practice. It was still pretty early for the practice to begin but something told me he didn't want to arrive late and be the center of attention. I parked the car to the parking lot, letting Seth have it for the day and decided to walk to school.
