Okay, I lied. It has not been a month. School's still in session but I had an idea so I did the thing...

"Y/n, can I get your opinion on something?" Hotch asked you.

"Uh, sure," you replied skeptically. You wondered what he could need your opinion for since you didn't have a case. "What's up?"

"Which of these places would be the best for a first date?" Hotch handed you a list of several places with corresponding pictures and reviews.

"Oh wow. Um, you've put a lot of thought into this..."

"I just want it to be perfect. So which one?"

"Uh, can you give me a minute?"

"Sure. You know where to find me," he said as he turned and went back to his office.

As you looked over the list you texted your best friend.

Friend: You're kidding

You: nope. he's seeing someone

Friend: I'm so sorry. Wine it out?

You: no, it's ok. gtg

Friend: Understandable. Bye!

You sighed and continued reviewing the restaurants, wondering why Hotch had asked you of all people. Perhaps is some cosmic joke, you thought.

~ Three days later ~

"Hi, Hotch," you chirped.

"Y/n! Good, I was looking for you."

"Oh?"

"Yeah uh, I need some more advice."

"Ah," you said, deflating a little. "Shoot. Whatcha need?"

"Flowers. Too much for a first date or perfect?"

"Uh, I guess it depends."

"On?"

"Who the person is. Do they like flowers?"

"Yes."

"Okay. Uh, do you want to make your date feel like royalty? Because that's the message you're sending with flowers."

Hotch nodded and considered this. "Thanks, y/n," he said, walking away.

"You're welcome," you softly called after him. You watched Hotch wistfully, only to be interrupted by Garcia.

"Oh I know that look," she cooed sadly.

"Hmm?" you asked shifting your gaze to your brightly dressed friend.

"You're in love," she half-whispered sadly.

"No! N- nooooo," you insisted half-heartedly.

Garcia nodded. "You're in love, honey."

"No. It- it's not... love. It's a crush. Just a little crush."

"Mmhmm, keep telling yourself that," Garcia responded. All sympathy in her voice was gone. "Whatever you wanna call it, it's here and it's not leaving." With a small shrug, she walked off, skirt swishing.

~ The next day ~

"Good morning, y/n."

"Morning, Hotch."

Hotch walked past your desk before stopping and standing still.

"You okay there, boss?" you asked, mostly in jest.

After a moment of silence, Hotch shook his head. "Yes. I'm fine. I'm just nervous is all."

You were surprised. "You?" you asked over-sarcastically. "The Aaron Hotchner? Nervous? I never thought..."

"Ha. Ha. Ha."

"What are you worried about?" you asked through a small chuckle.

"Tonight's the date. Hopefully."

You raised your eyebrows. "Hopefully?"

"I haven't asked," Hotch admitted bashfully.

You rolled your eyes. "Hotch you've got to toughen up and ask! Anyone would be lucky to get a date with you."

Hotch perked up a little when you said that. "Do you mean that?"

"Absolutely. Now," you continued, "call this mystery date and ask!"

"Right now?"

"Yes!"

"But we're both at work," he insisted.

"So? This'll take, what? Five minutes?"

"Okay..." Hotch pulled out his phone and called. Moments later your phone began to ring.

Shocked, you looked back and forth between your phone, which was dancing across your desk, and Hotch.

"No answer," he said with a smile, hanging up the phone. "Guess I'll have to ask in person. Y/n, will you go to dinner this evening?"

Still in shock, you nodded. "Yes. Absolutely, yes! Is that why you were asking me all those questions?"

Hotch blushed. "I wanted to make sure everything was perfect for your Royal Highness."

It was your turn to blush. "The flowers—"

"Will be here at the end of the day," he finished.

"Well, I look forward to this evening," you said with a giggle.

"As do I," Hotch replied with a soft smile.
