It was a rainy spring day. Spencer was sitting near the front window of the corner coffee shop with his laptop in front of him, textbook next to it. He sighed in contentment as he sipped his coffee, chuckling as the steam fogged up his glasses.

"Alright. Focus." Spencer cleared his throat and began reading to himself quietly. "The United States's involvement in the Vietnam war began in..." Spencer casually looked up to type some notes on his laptop when someone caught his eye. Across the street was a tall, muscular man around his age wearing a polished black leather jacket.

Spencer quickly looked down at his notes, cursing himself for staring. He shook his head and went back to reading. "On December 1, 1969, the draft lottery..."

"Hi! What can I get for you today?"

Spencer's reading was interrupted by a smooth voice.

"Uh, coffee. Black."

Spencer cautiously turned around and saw the man from across the street. His y/h/c hair was slick from the raindrops that had presumably been wiped off. Presently he was wiping the droplets off his jacket.

"Here you go, sir! $3.25."

"Keep the change," he said with a wink.

Spencer's shoulders dropped a little as he turned around and faced his notes once more. He just finished the page when he heard someone sit next to him.

"Depressing, isn't it?"

Spencer looked around to see who the man was talking to. When he saw no one he decided to take a chance. "W- what is?"

"The rain. Everything's dark and wet." He turned to look at Spencer and flashed him a smile.

Spencer blushed as his gaze lingered on the man's sharp jawline. Spencer snapped out of his trance. "Sorry, what?"

The man chuckled softly. "It's nothing. I just said that I've never understood how people like rainy days."

"Well rain, or any moving water really, has negative ions, creating a biochemical reaction that minimizes negative feelings like stress. Most of the things around us give off positive ions, which clashes with our own energy field. Essentially, negative ions are natural antidepressants."

The man blinked at Spencer in awe before pulling a pen out from his pocket and scribbling something on a napkin.

"S- sorry. I like science."

"That was amazing. You just know that?"

"Y- yeah."

The man laughed before shaking his head and locking eyes with Spencer. "Go on a date with me."

Spencer was shocked by how forward he was. "I- I don't even know your name!"

"Y/n," he replied. He then stood up and slid the napkin over in front of Spencer. Y/n winked and walked out the door.

Spencer smiled down at the note. He gingerly unfolded the napkin, revealing y/n's phone number. Spencer immediately pulled out his phone and texted y/n.

Spencer: Hi. This is Spencer from the coffee shop.

Seconds later, y/n responded.

You: Hey. So you free this week?

Spencer smiled and turned pink.

Spencer: I don't have class on Tuesdays.

You: Perfect! Meet you tomorrow at the coffee shop at 6

Spencer: Okay.

Spencer was giddy with a bubbly joy. He tried fruitlessly to focus on his assignment for another hour before going back to his apartment. Upon entering, Spencer was greeted by his roommate Sebastian.

"What's got you in such a good mood, Spency?" the Frenchman urged, bouncing like a child.

"Nothing, Seb."

"Oh, I think it's more than nothing." Sebastian circled Spencer before clapping his hands in front of his mouth and gasping. "Spencer Reid have you met someone?"

"N- no," Spencer said through a developing blush.

"Yes, you have!" Sebastian sang. "Who is she? Is she pretty? Come on Spency spill!"

Spencer shoved passed Sebastian and retreated into his room before calling out, "His name is y/n," over his shoulder.
