Sang
"Thank you." I was feeling teary again, for a completely different reason now.
"No reason to thank us, Pookie." Dr Green flicked my forehead with his finger. "Our family had been waiting for you for a while. We knew from the beginning that from the size of our group, it was unlikely that there'd be anyone that would be right for all of us."
"What do you mean?" Waiting for me?
He and Mr Blackbourne exchanged a glance over my head.
I felt Mr Blackbourne nod, and he moved me until I sat at the table facing the two of them again. They both wore somber looks, and if I didn't know better they seemed a bit nervous as well.
What could possibly have them this worked up? Dr Green began talking. "Well, this has to do with the whole concept of magical compatibility and blood that I started to explain to you this morning."
I nodded, and he continued. "I could explain the science behind it, which would be boring, or I could show you what I mean. I would need some of your blood, nothing more than a slight cut. I would do the same to Mr Blackbourne."
I was curious now, and really wanted to see rather than just hear. "Alright."
"Before you agree to do this," Dr Green was tapping his leg up and down. "I want you to know that this is actually an ancient ritual. This ceremony is only known to us in theory. Normally, in a medical environment, a doctor would send out samples of blood from all parties and compatibility would be tested in a lab."
"Ceremony?" What did he mean? What kind of ceremony?
Mr Blackbourne took my right hand in both of his and Dr Green held on to my left. "Miss Sorenson, this ritual that I want Dr Green to do to test our blood is actually a blood-binding ceremony."
Was he saying what I thought he was saying, blood magic? Didn't that kind of thing create permanent bonds?
My thoughts must have shown on my face, because he nodded, his eyes not leaving mine. "Yes, since we doing this right from the source, we'd be bonded differently than those paired and married by just being magically compatible. There's no going back after this."
