TOP’s Point of View

TWO YEARS LATER….

“Theodore, are you sure you’re going to marry that woman? Wala ng atrasan ito, anak!”

Ang kulit talaga ng nanay ko. Pati ba naman sa araw ng kasal ko, tinatanong pa din niya yan. Although Athena and I were together for two years now, hirap pa rin talaga siyang tanggapin ang mapapangasawa ko. But still, since we had lolo’s blessing, wala din naman siyang magagawa.

As you see, it was a tradition in the Ramisses na magpakasal ng maaga. But then, I had to wait for Athena’s approval. Medyo matagal din kasi bago ko nakuha ang matamis niyang oo. She said she wanted to make sure. And I respected her decision. So after two years nga, she finally said yes.

“Ano ka ba, mom! STOP PESTERING THEO’S MOOD! HE’LL BE MARRIED ANY MINUTE NOW, FOR GOD’S SAKE!”, pagtatanggol naman sakin ni Chelsea.

Well, ever since mom and Chelsea reconciled, mas lalong tumindi lang ang pagbabangayan nila. Syempre, mag-ina nga eh, walang magpapatalo talaga sa dalawa.

Just then my phone beeped. Pagkatingin ko, it was a message from Athena.

I love you, Theo. I have to go.

“Si Athena ba yan? Makangiti ka ah!”, pansin naman ni Chelsea.

“Yeah, she said she’s on the way to the church. Halika na nga kayo! Baka maunahan pa ko ni Athena eh!”

My family and I actually arrived at the Church 30 minutes before the time. Wala pa si Athena, thank goodness. Pagkarating ko dun, madami akong nakitang umattend ng kasal namin ni Athena, most especially our WAR classmates and schoolmates. It was good to see them again. Naging mahalaga sila sa love story namin ni Athena.

My lolo was also there. Kahit na medyo nanghihina na siya, he insisted on attending my wedding. Medyo okay na naman si Athena sa kanya, besides, he told me na he didn’t want me to end up like my dad. So he just let me do whatever I want, lalo na sa pagpili ng taong papakasalan ko.

This is probably the most nerve-wrecking moment of my life. And ikasal sa babaeng pinakamamahal ko. Sa babaeng hindi ko aakalaing makakapagbago pa sa Theodore Ramisses na ako noon. My life was worth nothing, not until she came. Athena reminded me that I need to live. Not just for myself, but also, because I was destined to live for her too.

“Pare, alagaan mo si Athena.”

That was my best man. Si Clyde.

Well, Athena picked the Best Man actually. Kahit na naging karibal ko siya noon, alam kong minahal niya si Athena na siguro, higit pa nga sa kaya kong ibigay. And I need to appreciate that, dahil kung hindi dahil sa kanya, hindi ko marerealize kung gaano kahalaga sakin si Athena.

I gave him a pat on his shoulder and he smiled back.

“Sir, five minutes. Five minutes na lang po!”, pagpapaalala sakin nung wedding coordinator.

Whew. Get a grip, Theodore. Kaya mo yan.

FUCK FUCK. I’m so nervous I could pee here.

All I ever want right now is to see Athena. Siya lang ang magpapakalma sa akin. Siya lang.

But then, the choir started singing and the flowergirls came in.

I knew this was the moment I was waiting for.

Any seconds from now, I could see my bride…my future…and my love.

Ni hindi ko napansin ang biglaang paglakas na bulung-bulungan ng mga bisita. Marahil, nakita na nila si Athena na lumalabas sa white Mercedes I picked out for her bridal car. Hindi ko kasi makita dito from the front view of the aisle, masyadong madaming flower arrangements, ang daming harang.

Nang sinara na yung pintuan ng simbahan, I knew what was next. My heart started pounding fast and my adrenaline rush was annoying the crap out of me. Hindi ko mapigilang gumalaw galaw.

I was just so excited to see Athena. To see her walking down the aisle and----

“ANO?!”

Clyde’s voice boomed over the church. I had to look back at him dahil nasira din kasi ang moment ko. WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH HIM?!

Pagkatingin ko sa likod ko, everyone has their confused faces. Nang humarap sakin si Clyde, I could tell that something wrong has just happened.

“TOP….”

My heart was then wrapped up with fear.

“Anong nangyayari??? Why did the choir stop playing???”

Walang sumagot sa akin. I looked for the wedding coordinator and she came up to me, her eyes filled with worry…..and fear.

It was so horrifying….dahil nakita ko ang sarili ko sa kanya.

“Sir Theodore….”

“WHAT??? SABI KO, anong nangyari sa choir?? Athena’s waiting outside----!”

“Wala po si Miss Athena, sir. Wala po siya sa bridal car niya.”

O____O

Panic rose over my system. Gusto kong tanungin kung nagbibiro ba sila pero sa muka nila ay alam kong hindi.

I felt weak. Gusto kong magbreakdown. But then, I remembered Athena’s message.

I love you, Theo. I have to go.

Hindi na ko nagpapigil pa. I ran outside the church as fast as I could.

I have to find my bride. Bakit umalis si Athena?

Hindi niya kong kayang iwan. Hindi niya sakin gagawin yun.

She said she loves me.
