Class 1-2 lined up near the doorway, admiring the finished product of their café interior with its glory of lace and muslin curtains held together with delightful puffs of satin bows. About eight adorable, round petite tea tables delivered by none other than Ryouko’s trusty butler himself covered the entirety of the room, decorated in the olden English-style of formal table setting. And finally, a wooden counter, made by the class members, dressed with beautiful drapes of tapestry from which they would keep the variety of refreshments and desserts stood proudly at the far corner of the room.

Above their heads, three small fake chandeliers sparkled, made of paper mache and cheap, fake jewels. There is an ambiance of serenity and elegance at the overall look of their café and the class members are extremely proud of themselves for finally completing the booth. It is Sunday and thus depicts the last day of preparation before the festival opens to the public on the next morning.

Dresses, tunics, trousers and sashes had been sewn to perfection, hats and wigs bought from thrift antique shops at the lowest prices possible and all accessories either brought home from the students’ residences or bought from nearby variety shops are ready for fitting.

The class fashioned a huge drape of curtains to separate the room into two portions for the female and male dressing areas. Bearing their costumes over their arms and shoulders, they separated into two groups, the males entering the room by the back door whilst the girls took the front entrance.

“No peeking!” The girls shouted at the males on the other side of the curtain.

“Stop dreaming!” The boys retorted sarcastically.

There were murmurs in the air as the girls help each other with zippers and sash-tying, the boys equally noisy assisting each other with the tunics, bowties and belts. When they finished, the result exceeded their expectations.

“Kanpeki! (Perfect!)” One of the girls exclaimed as she twirled around, the fluffy skirt following her movements smoothly.

The girls squealed and complimented each other at how adorable the outfits looked on them. There were a wide variety of garments ranging from maid uniforms, country-styled dresses and elegant gowns fit for noble ladies and princesses. There was no envy as to whose gown looks fancier. Every girl looked satisfied with their own costume.

The same can be said for the guys. They were especially fond of the props. Fake swords, bows and arrows, daggers, knives of all shapes and sizes could be seen either at the back or the hips of each boy. Most of them dressed up as brigands whilst a few butlers, lords and princes stood up from the crowd, their unique costumes being more eye-catching than the rest.
After the first rehearsal, the class devoted themselves into their respective groups and focused on their main tasks at hand. They had to make the most of their time and thus dividing manpower is really a delicate and crucial step to make.

The class president Aoki Kurumi took charge of the class booth and entirely handed over the management of the class play to Mami. With the prop-making, hammering, constructing, sewing and painting to be made, the rest of the class does not have enough time to check on what is happening with the play preparations.

“Besides,” Aoki Kurumi told herself, admiring the back view of her medieval gown on the full-body mirror standing at one corner of the room, “with the stellar performances of the cast during the first rehearsal, they should be alright.” She smiled and tightened the bow on her breast.

She figured that Mami and the others might already be done with the run-through of the whole hour-long play. They had spent two days, Friday and Saturday, entirely on rehearsals, completely secluded as to promote the concentration of the cast. Ryouko even hired a choreographer to help with the fight scenes. Kurumi felt somewhere deep in her that they are a bit unfair towards the other classes but there was no rule that they could not seek outside help. Besides, there were no budget restrictions. Having the rich Ryouko as one of the casts is truly such a blessing. It gives them quite the advantage.
