"Carson!" I cried, running over and jumping on him.

He staggered back from my weight, but quickly regained his balance and hugged me fiercely.

"Hell," he breathed into my neck, pulling me closer. "Look at what you're doing to me. I was terrified."

I smiled, savoring the embrace and the security I felt.

"Um, I'm still here," the thug said.

Carson narrowed his eyes and set me down a little off to the side.

I watched as he crossed his arms deliberately, addressing the thug now. "How did you even find her?"

Actually, I was wondering that as well!

I looked over at the thug, who laughed evilly.

"I have men everywhere," he grinned. "And I had someone follow you home."

"Who?" I challenged.

He smirked, and said, "Come on in!"

I frowned, unsure of what was happening.

To my surprise, someone walked in the doorway to join us.

Someone I did not expect.

"Jeff?!" I gasped.

The police officer who had pulled us over multiple times was standing right in front of me.

"Sorry, Hayley," he told me, looking into my eyes with a serious air. "But he's paying me."

"Jerk!" I yelled, my fists clenching. "When I tell Camille about you, she will never go on that date!"

"You won't be alive to tell her," Jeff told me gravely.

Carson looked at the two guys, sizing them up.

The thug noticed this and laughed heartily.

"What are you going to do now?" He taunted. "Without your grandma here to save you, you're defenseless!"

Carson made a face at that. "Did you even hear what you just said?"

The thug paused.

As he rethought his words, Carson took the opportunity to punch him in the face.

The guy flew back, knocking into the couch and flipping back over it, landing on the floor.

As those two began to square off, I focused on the traitor police officer.

Jeff had a gun tucked in his belt that could easily kill us both.

Fearing this idea, I quickly grabbed it out of its pouch before he had time to react.

As he tried to grab it back, I pointed the gun right at him.

"Freeze, bitch," I said, aiming the it at his heart.
