"Y/n, aren't you leaving?"
I snapped my gaze to the one who asked that and saw the other helper, Eunbi, standing by the doorway of the nursery room where I'm in. Her eyes wandered around and soon stopped right on the crib beside the chair I'm currently occupying.
"Her father's still not picker her up?" she added.
"He's late again." I stared back on the baby, peacefully sleeping on the crib. An exasperated sigh comes out from me. I feel so sorry for Seowoo, who's just a two-week old baby girl. Her only parent didn't have all the time to look after her and it breaks my heart.
"The daycare is closing. You should call him."
"But I didn't have his number." another sigh. "I'm taking Seowoo with me." I rose from the chair and took the baby blanket hanging on the backrest, then proceeded to wrap it around the small baby and lifted her up in my arms.
"Help me with her things."
Eunbi carried the bag containing the baby's essentials while I hold her in my arms as we headed towards the daycare's exit. Just in time when I stepped a foot outside, a panting man comes into the view, rushing his way towards me.
He bends over and propped both of his palms on the either sides of his knees while catching his breath. "I'm... Sorry if I... took so long." he said breathlessly.
"It's fine Mr. Byun." I smiled at him and glimpsed at Eunbi, gesturing for her to hand the baby bags to Baekhyun and so she did. He takes them and makes his way to his car, parked right in front of the daycare.
I followed behind Baekhyun and watch him place the bags in the trunk.
"I'm really sorry for making you wait. Just busy with all the schedules." he lets out an awkward chuckle while preparing the car seat meant for Seowoo.
Baekhyun is an idol, a member of EXO who unfortunately became a single father after his girlfriend ran away, just three days after Seowoo was born. I feel terribly sorry for the baby for already having a broken family. Also, to the father who had to go through a lot only to be left alone with such big responsibility.
I know Baekhyun, his group is one of the biggest boybands the world has to offer. It was almost impossible that people wouldn't know their group's name. After he revealed he's going to be a father and is planning to marry his pregnant non-celebrity girlfriend, everyone in the world — fan or not, were surprised. As expected, many of his fans turned their back against him and he received a lot- I mean, lots and lots of hate and I even got the chance to read some of them.
Until now, no one knew his non-celebrity girlfriend had ran away. Only I do, his trusted helper to take care of Seowoo at the daycare. He told me something about himself and what really happened to his relationship with his ex-girlfriend before he appointed me as Seowoo's personal helper out of all the helpers in the daycare. A week spending all my time with his baby girl and seeing him off to call it the day, I grew fond of them both... As I am their helper and nothing else.
Seeing Baekhyun struggling to balance his work as an idol and responsibilities as a father... I thought I should step up and offer him a hand so he wouldn't find this new adjustment, a hassle.
"Mr. Byun," he halts from fixing the car seat and turns his head to look at me. I have to say it know or I'll end up having my tongue tied so I quickly blurted out whatever that has been in my head. "Do you want me to be Seowoo's pick-up helper?"
