"Keith?" Arlo couldn't believe it, "Where have you been?"

Keith laughed.

"I was hired to be a messenger for Gale."

Wait.

This isn't like Keith. He's not... nervous.

No. He just feels safe now.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Well- I'm not really supposed to tell anyone, you know. Still, sorry I hadn't said anything though."

"Alright, then."

"Where are the other guys?"

Arlo didn't respond.

Keith's face went blank.

"Tell me later."

Keith put the hood back on and took Arlo to the building he had been in before, to meet the commanders.

Keith opened the door for him and he walked through.

"Ah. Arlo, I see you've come early." Gale spoke.

"Yes, you asked to see me."

The room was large, almost shaped like a three-dimensional triangle had been elongated on one of its sides. At the center was a large, oval-shaped table with half a dozen seats going around it. All the other commanders - aside from Kain, of course - were seated.

Arlo sat in a seat that Keith pulled out.

And there was a long silence.

"I've brought you to talk about matters regarding Kain's death." Gale spoke, breaking the silence.

Arlo looked over at Keith, who now looked uncomfortable.

Strange.

"You're taking Kain's place as the commander of the swords and as a secondary general of The Red Cross."

"What? You want me to... take charge with you?"

"That is correct."

Arlo sat back in his chair and looked up.

"I thought you would be talking about Kain, not his job."

Gale sighed and sat back in his chair, too.

"Cloak, bring me the documents from Kain."

Keith sat up and quickly walked down a hall in the room, returned, and handed Gale a sheet of paper.

"The paper here is Kain's will. A letter he wrote in case he died."

He had Keith give it to Arlo.

This paper you hold now is my final will. If you are reading this paper, I am here no longer. I only have twotrequesys, Gale. First: do not speak of me once I am gone, the soldiers will only feel weakened. Second: Give my position to Arlo. I trust in him as a soldier and have a feeling that he will one day be a great leader. I feel it in my bones.

Your faithful friend and commander, Kain

Arlo gave the paper back to Keith.

"Of all the noble..." Arlo's voice trailed off.

There was a dead silence in the room.

Gale tapped his finger on the table.

"And that... is why... we must... appoint you as a commander...

and second general."
