About myself:
Hey, I’m Rowan, your average introverted teen writer severely lacking social skills! I joined Wattpad over three years ago writing fanfiction and have been an active member since, developing my writing along the way.
I’m really looking forward to reviewing and helping people improve their work, and I’m hoping to learn a few things myself too!
Genres I prefer:
I’ll pretty much review anything if it interests me, but I do prefer fantasy, teen fiction, paranormal, thrillers, and anything LGBTQ. I’m not the biggest fan of romance, but I’m willing to give it a go.
I’m happy to review mature, but it depends on the content. I’ll be checking for trigger warnings at the start of said book.
Genres I won’t read:
Bad boy romances. I joined Wattpad during the hype, I don’t think I could handle another without physically crying lmao.
Main focus:
First impressions - This will be all about cover, blurb, first chapter etc. There’s nothing more important on Wattpad than hooking readers into your story.
Grammar - Bad grammar puts readers off your work and takes them out of the story. It’s usually a boring thing to fix, but it’s worth it.
Writing style - Writers having their own unique style is incredibly important. Here, I’ll be talking about descriptions, use of language, general flow, and creativity!
Characterisation and development - A strong character is worth more than a strong plot. And by strong, I mean well-written and consistent. If your character’s executed well, there are more chance readers will stick around, even if there are plot holes round every corner.
Plot - This part will be about general intrigue and the actual structure of your book (for example, my personal favourite, the three-act story structure).
Conclusion - Final words and anything else I feel the need to mention.
No. of chapters I’ll review:
At least five, so I can get a general grip of your story and writing. But if I’m enjoying it, no doubt I’ll read more!
