"Mom, this is Kara. Kara, this is my mom, Theresa." I shifted from my foot to my right, leaning to shake his mother's hand. She had light brown hair that fell in loose curls around her shoulders. She was in a pair of jeans and a blue, jean smock hanging around her neck. She was sitting in the living rom with a cup of coffee in her hands. There was a large leather couch that was in the shape of an "L", and the walls were a dark red. It was so cozy.

I wished that I wasn't still in my uniform, the unflattering all black facade and matted down hair from that stupid visor. I hadn't realized his parents would be home, if I did I might have brought an extra pair of clothes, and something to fix this awful pony tail I've got going on.

"So, this is Kara," Theresa smiled slyly at me, settling back into her chair. I felt a blush creep to my neck, averting my gaze with a small smile. Rian brought up my name with his mom?

"Nice to meet you," I finally met her eyes, noticing that Rian got his soft brown eyes from her. Her features were delicate, and her smile was natural. "You have a beautiful home."

"Glad to know someone appreciates it," she was teasing Rian, eyes landing on him for a moment. I could hear him snort at his mom's comment. She smiled lightly, turning back to me. "Don't mind my clothes; those elementary school kids really know how to wear you out." Oh, she's an art teacher. That makes sense.

"Where's Dad?" Rian asked, his voice a good distance away from me now. I glanced to my left, noticing him standing in the doorway. He glanced into what I imagine to be the kitchen, before looking back in our direction. His mom's shoulder raised and fell, tapping her nail on the side of the mug she was holding. Then she snapped, realization hitting her.

"He was grabbing some vegetables at the grocery store so I can start dinner, but I don't think we'll be able to sit down until like seven," she frowned, but shook it off before looking at me, "Are you staying for dinner, Kara?"

"I couldn't intrude," I held my hands out in front of me. Rian and Theresa both snorted at the same time, smiling brightly.

"If I didn't want to get to know Rian's new girlfriend then I wouldn't have offered," I couldn't stpot he warm explosion on my cheeks, palms starting to sweat at the thought. I laughed nervously, unsure of how to respond to a statement like that.

It's not that I don't like Rian, because it's obvious that I do at this point, I wouldn't even deny it. The thought made me more nervous than I ever expected to be. It almost surprised me how much it made my breathing qucken and the fidgeting of my hands increase.

"She's not my girlfriend, mom," Rian groaned while leaning his head against the doorway to the kitchen, like he's told his mom so many times before or something. She smiled, shrugging once and nodding. "But thanks for making it awkward."

"Okay, and you're welcome," by the tone of her voice, you could tell that she didn't believe it one bit. Rian instead sighed, teliling her that we would be up in his room if she needed anything. I was surprised that she didn't tell Rian to leave his door open or anything of the sort. Almost all of the houses of guys that I went over to had parents telling them to not clsoe their doors. I guess she trusted Rian.

Rian's fingers wrapped around mine showing me up the stairs, taking a left when we reached the top. I followed him, allowing him to pull me into a room that was at the very end of the hall. He opened it, stepping to the side and letting me step in before he followed. I grinned at him, glancing around to the brown walls, which strangely matched mine, and it caused me to smile.

"I have the same walls," I laughed once, looking to his all black furniture: bed frame, television, bed side table, dresser, computer chair, desk and bedspread. You would think that the two colors look awkward together, but in this room it just made sense.
