THE AIR SEEMS to shift as we load off on land. It went from nerves and anticipation, to war and guns blazing in a split second.

We rain fire on the Nazis. Buck and I stay close to each other. Me, along with the 107th regiment, are on the front lines of the Italian border.

Buck and I left instantly the next morning after the fair. We loaded on a boat, and made it to camp. A few days later we were shipped out here. I don't exactly know where "here" is, but that's fine.

I raise the rifle once more, shooting down the few German soldiers surrounding me.

It took a total of thirty minutes to win this battle.

This was one of the easier ones we've been on.

So let me catch you up real quick, if you don't mind. As soon as I got to camp with my brother, the men in my group thought it was outrageous how a girl was put into this gruesome war.

There were only a few who didn't mind as much. They were our closer friends in this place. We have Dum Dum Dogan and Gabe Jones. They're the best.

There were no other female soliders, nor agents anywhere in sight of this place.

Yeah, it's tough being the only lady, but it has its perks.

It's only been five weeks of being away from Steve Rogers, and I miss him dearly. It's weird in a way. You would never think you'd get so attached to a person.

"Alright, we're done here. Dum Dum and Jones, round up the wrasslers, Agent Barnes will be escorting our group back to camp. Let's move out!" Sergeant Barnes commands.

God, that still feels weird.

We all get to movin', listening to our officer in charge. I hold my hand in the air.

"Come on, ladies. This way, if you will." I joke. They grumble, but smile slightly. With our time here, I've practically became the mother of the bunch.

Our regiment marches back to camp. When we enter, we are surrounded by all the 107th members at this location.

"How bad was it?" A man asks, grasping my shoulder.

"Most of us made it out perfectly fine. Just a few scratches and grazes on the injured, none dead."

"Where's Sergeant Barnes?"

"Back at the battlefield. Let's get the injured to medical, and we'll continue this, yeah?"

————–————————––—–—

"Can you get me another?" Bucky asks from his spot next to me by the camp fire.

I reach beside me and pull a beer out of the cooler.

We were lucky enough to score a few coolers filled with alcoholic beverages from our last battle.

I hand my brother the drink, grabbing one for myself as well.

"Will the lovely lady care to take a dance?" Dum Dum asks me, holding a hand out to me.

"If it will make you all feel better." I sigh, placing the non-drunk drink down on the log I'm sitting on. I stand up, taking the soldier's hand.

The whole night is filled with laughs and drinks around the fire, as we live for the first time whilst in the military.

Midnight rolls around, and I shoo all of the men to bed.

"Get to bed, all of you! I want all lights off in ten minutes!" I command, grabbing a beer out of one of the men's hands.

"Come on, Charlie!" Simon whines, sulking down to show his objection.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you about Simon. He's one of the closer friends as well. He joined later than Buck and I did, and it was my job to get him used to things around here.

"You heard the lady, off you go." Bucky pushes Simon away from me and towards the cabins.

"I had that handled, James."

He groans at the use of his real name. "Don't call me that, you know how much I hate that name."

"You don't hate your name. Besides, that's what I call you."

He scoffs. "You call me Bucky too."

"Would you like me to only call you James? No? Then get to bed with you."

He's obedient and heads to his Sergeant quarters.

Fortunately, I have my own cabin. With being a female and all, I wouldn't totally recommend sleeping in the same room as a man who has been deprived of the woman body for months.

As soon as my head touches the uncomfortable pillow, sirens sound through the camp.

I groan, but nonetheless get dressed and grab my gun.

Someone bangs on my door, assuming I'm still asleep, when I never got the chance to do such. "Agent Barnes, we're under attack!"

I open the door, seeing it is one of the younger men in this regiment.

"I understand, get to your stations! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!" I run off, shooting down every German soldier in my way.

I get to high ground, and position my sniper.

I shot at every Nazi, until there were none left. I heave a sigh, scoping around the camp for anymore.

My brother comes into my line of sight, and I laugh. He's looking around him frantically, looking like a chicken without a head.

I shout down to him, letting him know that I am safe.

"Hey James, I am up here! You good?"

He looks to where he heard my voice. I could see him visibly let out the breath he was holding in.

I make my way to him. It takes a total of ten minutes to get to him from how high up I was.

He engulfs me in a hug, squeezing tightly.

"Don't scare me like that! I thought you were hurt, or worse!"

"Bucky, we're in a war." I deadpan.

"Doesn't mean I can't worry."

I sigh, and pull out of the embrace to get a good look at him. I smack him on the chest lightly.

"You don't need to. I know how to take care of myself, and I know what I'm doing out here."

He exhales, running a hand through his hair.

"What about this. After a battle we will whistle two short times to signal that we are unharmed. If we are injured then one long one."

"Okay, and if we need help then do the mocking bird song whistle."

Author's Note: guys, can I be apart of the 107th? Not because of the war, well yes because of the war. But because of the sense of family you get. (And possibly bc I would get to know Bucky Barnes.)
