Mom and Junior were in the sitting room watching a cartoon on Nickelodeon and I was walking on tip toes, trying to get to the front door without letting them know. I soon got to the door, wrapped my hand around the door knob, ready to turn it when...

"Oluwabukunmi."

I stopped and my heart stopped too for a split second before it started beating again.

Trembling and mustering up courage to plaster a fake smile on my face, I turned back. Their gazes were both averted from the television and they were both staring at me.

"Where are you going? Sneaking around the house like a thief in broad daylight?"

I bit my lips, tried to think of one reasonable excuse to tell her but being unable to come up with one until I remembered I was holding a notebook in my hand.

"I have to go and do an assignment with my friend in Tari's house."

My brother's eyes widened to the size of saucers.

"liar liar, lying pants, mummy, don't mind her. She's going there to meet..."

The deadly glare I sent him made him shut instantly and to focus his attention back on the TV. I turned back to mom, my lips stretching back into what I assumed should a charming smile.

"So, you're telling me that you have an assignment to do in the middle of this long term holiday?"

Oh shit.

"Actually mom," I cocked my head to one side as I tried to think of one reasonable thing to say. "We're supposed to do the assignment over the break and..."

"Aaaaaaaaaahhhh!" My brother shouted, his eyes still fixed on the screen but I could tell that the scream was meant for me. I muttered profanities under my breath before turning to mom again.

"Okay oo. If you say so. Sha don't stay long."

"Okay Ma."

I ignored my brother my brother who was staring at me with disbelief etched on his face like a permanent feature as I stepped out of the house and subsequently out of the whole building.

It was the third term break, Sophia was out of the country, attending galas and fashion shows and living her life as Sophia Williams, Aminah was in Abuja visiting a relative and Adam was in Tari's place.

The only reason why I was opening the door to their sitting room now.

Tari was in the sitting with two other girls, girls I presumed to be her friends and she immediately left their middle and jogged off to where I was standing right at the entrance, wondering where the boy that asked me to come here was with a very excited smile lighting up her face.

"Kunmi, you're here. Your boyfriend has been waiting for you since morning."

I found myself smiling back at her because the smile on her face was too huge and too contagious.

"So where is he?" I asked, looking around the entire sitting room and dinning room but he was nowhere to be found.

"In his room." She replied in less than a nanosecond and my eyes widened.
