daniel's pov

"you really need to stop staring at her, dude." jonah said, pulling me out of my train of thoughts. "i'm not staring." i replied, taking my eyes off my ex girlfriend who was at the other end of the gym for her volleyball practice.

i grabbed my phone out of my backpack and checked the time, the rest of the guys were late as per usual. our basketball practice was starting soon and there was only about six of us here so i texted the guys to hurry up.

"seavey, where's the others?" my coach asked me. looking up, i shrugged, not having a clue myself. "i'm sure they're on their way, coach." he nodded and made his way over to the exit, most likely going to get the basketballs for us.

"finally." jonah sighed and i realised the guys were here. "sorry, i got caught up in some work." zach said. "what are your excuses?" he asked jack and corbyn but they just rolled their eyes. "this idiot can't drive."

the blonde swatted jack's neck and i chuckled as did the rest of them. "glad to see you've all decided to join us." coach returned and dropped the mesh bag on the ground. "start warming up."

i got up from my seat and then grabbed a ball from the bag. i bounced and dribbled it for a bit, working my arms and my legs at the same time so i could get warm. zach called my name and raised his arms, signalling for me to throw it at him.

i nodded and threw it but zach, as always, just about managed to catch it. he tossed it back to me awfully so i couldn't even get it and the ball went in the direction of the opposite side of the gym, where the volleyball girls were. they were all taking a break on the side. "really?" i rolled my eyes at the younger boy who laughed sympathetically.

i left my spot and followed the ball that was rolling on the floor, i had to jog a little to catch up to it and dodge past some of the girls who were in the way. the ball eventually stopped moving when it hit the back of her leg, i mentally cursed at myself and zach.

she turned around with a water bottle in her hand and a huge smile on her face. "sorry." i said, picking it up. "don't apologise." she frowned as she screwed the lid onto her drink. "was it zach?"

"yep, he still hasn't learnt to throw." i told her, avoiding eye contact because i knew the feelings would all start rushing back. i could tell she was looking at me.

cali giggled and waved to zach who was watching us with the rest of the guys. "how're you holding up?" she asked, observing my facial expressions. she never failed to read me so perfectly.

"i'm doing okay, what about you?"

"just okay?" she frowned, completely dodging my question. her voice sounded concerned and i knew she cared about me a lot, that's what had made me fall in love with her. "do you want to talk about it, daniel?"

i opened my mouth to speak but i was interrupted by coach calling my name from the other end of the gym. "i've got to go." i said, turning around to head back over there.

"wait." she held onto my arm which made me pause my movements. "let's talk at mine after practice?" cali asked and i nodded. "seavey!" coach called again causing her to smile and let go.

i ran back over to my team and the guys gave me a look that i knew meant 'tell me everything.' "she wants to talk." i told them. "do you want to?" jack asked.
