✩ MOOTING AND AMERICANOS ✩
It was a cold winter morning, and Junkyu wanted nothing more than a hot coffee to warm his day. He found another cutesy café as he walked towards his usual stop and halted in front of it, shrugging as he entered it.
The coffee shop he went to was always crowded, and he wanted to find a new spot, anyway.
His phone rang before he entered the café and he answered it, greeting the caller with a smile. "Hello, Hyunsuk hyung! Long time no call." He laughed, making the older on the other line laugh as well.
"Yeah, I have been busy with our assignments. I wanted to talk to you about it, actually. Are you busy?"
"Not really, I just came to get a coffee. What's up?" Junkyu walked through the door, mindlessly bowing at the staff at the counter before taking a seat, thinking of giving his order later.
"Well, our assignment was to make a contemporary pop piece, and that really isn't my area of expertise. I was hoping you could help me out, since you have done this assignment for your summer work, yeah?"
Junkyu hummed. "Yeah, hyung. For extra credit. Have you made any demos, so I can give it a look? Because most students just repeat the sequence and ..." He trailed off, blinking rapidly as his eyes landed on a familiar figure, checking if it was really you.
You were an art student in the same university Junkyu studied music in. Though you two majored in the arts, you never really came across each other, until your university started these mooting sessions where batch got together for a few debates — regardless of what they majored in.
You and Junkyu were part of the July batch and ended up having your mooting sessions together, which was where he first came across you. The instructor conducting the debates was your uncle, and you were always stating dumb pointers and jokes to make everyone laugh — including your uncle.
The way you confidently spoke and your funny jokes really had Junkyu in a trance. It didn't help that you were friendly either. As a punishment, your uncle made you introduce yourself to the whole July batch, and instead of announcing it to everyone, you went to each student, introducing yourself to all 100 of them, just to piss off your uncle.
When you came to Junkyu, he was captured by your warm smile and your bright eyes. Your introduction was one he couldn't forget no matter how hard he tried, and he realised along the way that maybe it was love at first sight for him.
Things only got better when you started coming to his classes as you sang live, as the lecturer taught the students about the various styles and pitches. Junkyu also volunteered to model for the art students as they needed models for their realistic still-life examples.
With Junkyu's interference, you two crossed paths more often, and you too got interested in the male, finding it odd how you two always saw each other despite your different majors. You waved off your infatuation as a mere crush, thinking Junkyu would never be interested in you — without knowing how he actually felt about you.
Hopefully, you two would realise it this time around.
"Junkyu? Are you there?" Junkyu was pulled out of his trance when Hyunsuk spoke loudly over the phone, grabbing his attention. "And what?"
"And, uh ..." The male watched as you made your way over to his table, a bright smile on your face. "... sorry, hyung, what was I saying?"
Seeing him on the phone, you mouthed 'americano' to Junkyu, hoping he'd get what you say. He simply smiled at you, finding the way you spoke completely cute. You wrote it down on your notepad, showing it to him, and he nodded, surprised to see you had written his order correctly.
"You there, Junkyu?"
"Uh, yeah ... kinda ... I guess." You held back a smile as you heard his response, giving a small nod as you turned around to get his order ready.
Hyunsuk chuckled on the other line, finding Junkyu's antics amusing. "If you are busy, Junkyu, I'll call you later. We can talk another time, it's fine. Alright?" He inquired, causing the younger male to nod before he answered.
"I'm not busy, hyung, but I'll hold you to that call. You remember that girl I talked to you about?"
"Yeah, Y/N, right?"
"She's working in this café I walked into, that's why I'm so spaced out."
"Good luck, lover boy. I'll call you tonight," Hyunsuk spoke, letting out a laugh as he ended the call with Junkyu.
You came over soon enough, holding a tray with an americano and a slice of chocolate cake. "Here is your order, sir," you cheekily stated, even though you knew Junkyu. "And the cake is on the house."
"On the house?" Junkyu raised his brows questioningly.
"Well, it's out of my paycheck, but same difference, no?"
The male laughed, shaking his head at your words. "I couldn't ask you because I was in a call, but how did you know about the americano?" He inquired, his wide smile never fading.
You thought over your words, wondering how to answer without sounding like a stalker. "I, uh, notice you always buy an americano and chocolate pastry when you come for mooting." Your grip on the tray tightened as you awkwardly spoke. "We didn't have pastries, but I thought a cake would be alright too."
"I didn't think you would know much about me, Y/N."
"Well, if you can stay until my shift is over, I would love to get to know you more, Junkyu."
