________********________

|Arthur's POV|

I was awakened with a waterfall of ice cold water poured over my sleeping form on this godforsaken cot. I didn't move. Didn't flinch. Just cracked open my eyes and stared blankly at the buff guard that was standing over top of me, with a rust metal bucket, which was now empty.

"Get up." Was all he said gruffly as he continued to watch me. He took a step back, expecting me to get up. Instead, I lay there on my side, staring at him and blinking slowly. We held a silent staring contest, neither of us blinking until his gaze narrowed.

"Really? Is this what one would call a shower?" I said as I continued to lay there, soaked in water. The dried blood that riddled what was left of my ragged shirt started to drip down my body, and onto the equally soaked cot. The guard glares at my unmoving form, choosing to walk over and grab my arm to pull me up. But before he could touch me, my godrune silently sparked to life and I found myself standing behind him, staring holes into his wide back. It took a few moments before he finally turned around. His eyes wide as he stared at me in shock, then glanced past me at the open cell door. I also looked behind me, then turned back and grinned with an innocent shrug.

"Don't worry, I'm not gonna run big guy." I chortle. He simply stood there, dumbfounded before finally regaining composure. He grabbed my arm, yanking me closer to him.

Close enough to smell his rancid breath.

That alone should be considered torture.

'It seems like no one here knows what hygiene is.' Regis hummed in my mind as I fought back a chuckle. "How did you do that just now?" The guard growled as his grip on my forearm tightened.

"A magician never tells their secrets." I said with a grin slowly spreading across my face as the man towering over me jerked me closer. It took all I had within myself not to hurl my stomach acid into his already dirtied face at the smell of his putrid breath. The stench alone could probably kill someone. How does one's breath actually smell—literally— like shit? He continued to glower at me, opening his mouth, probably to say something in reply but—

'Are....are you guys about to kiss?'

This time I couldn't help but laugh at Regis' idiocy. I folded over on myself at Regis' pop culture reference from my world, and unfortunately the guard didn't seem so pleased at my sudden out burst—but I couldn't help it.

I swear it's like having a 10 year old with ADHD, murderous and assholish tendencies stuck in my head. Not to mention he helped himself to all of my memories. Past...and present.

'Hey! I'm probably the best thing that happened to you princess. My feelings are
~d e l i c a t e~.' His voice echoed in my mind as he sent a mental image of himself flipping back his smokey mane with his paw.

'Regis I swear if you don't stop—' I thought as I gasped for much needed air.

"You need help." The guard pushed me back and clasped chained metal cuffs on me tightly before dragging me out of my cell.

"Nah, I'm just sleep deprived." I reply as we walked down the long open hall. Once we reached the stairs, I was bombarded with light that blinded me and instinctively, I lifted my chained arms to block it out. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I was greeted with several other guards and weirdly enough, the lord and lady of the Granbehl estate. Lord Granbehl was dressed in a well pressed navy blue suit, his hair slicked back as he gazed at me with a severe look plastered on his face. The lady was dressed in a knee length dress that bore the same color as her husband's suit. Her long hair was tied back neatly into a low bun.

"Ascender Grey, you've refused from the beginning of your stay here, to admit the undeniable truth of the actions you took against my family. Today, the trial will be held accordingly." He said in a low, angered yet condemning tone as his narrowed eyes set into a piercing glare.

"Oh please—don't be dramatic. The trial was gonna be held regardless." The smile on my face opposed the murderous glimmer in my eyes as the guards pulled my chains back, tugging me back with them and farther away from the lord and lady. Granbehl simply sneered at me, waving to the guards and telling them to get me a new set of clothes.

"How kind of you." I said sarcastically as I was tugged away and down the corridors to god knows where.

_______********_______

After my heartfelt goodbye to Petras, I was pulled and practically thrown into the metal box with wheels, which the Alacryans unfortunately called a prison wagon. Come on guys, what the hell?

The new set of clothes I wore, are a simple white shirt and black pants. Both articles of clothing looked and smelled old, like it hadn't seen the light of day in years. To recount what happened, the guards had led me into a back room, which I assumed to be the servants quarters. After I'd put my clothes on, a maid came into the room from a door that was connected to another room. I knew she wasn't supposed to be in there with me, considering how 'dangerous' I am. Though, when I asked, what she told me was something I hadn't expected.

"Lady Ada had confided in me a few days ago. She seemed troubled, even more so after going down in the holding cells to see you. She told me...that you didn't kill lords Kalon, Ezra and Lady Riah. It surprised me considerably sir...I'd never seen her break down like that, even after her siblings deaths." The round-faced maid said quietly.

I must've gotten through to Ada somehow, after what the maid told me. But apparently she still wants me dead for some reason so, oh well.

The ride to the courthouse was a bit short and silent as the guards sitting adjacent to me watched me like a hawk.
