Genre: historic fiction
Tommy William Smith was a British soldier during WW1. As a old man, he talks about his time in the war, and makes many reflections on it. In late 1915, Tommy enlisted in the army like many other young men did. Despite his parent's disapproval, they let him enlisted anyways since he turned 18. He felt a sense of duty to serve his country, and he wanted to change his reputation. During training, he made a new friend that was always there for him. The war was the complete opposite of what he expected, it was nothing glorious. In the trenches, he had to face his fears, and danger. After training he had no clue about what he's about to face in the battle field of Somme.
The reader can learn a bit about what being a soldier during ww1 was like and why war is horrible.
