You remember clearly the day it was announced that Mason signed with Chelsea's first team. All of your classmates treating it as if he was their best mate, even though they barely knew him. All you knew was that he was good at footy and that all of the girls wanted him and the guys wanted to be him. Your lack of interest in the sport meant that you didn't care much about the news making headlines all around Portsmouth. Mason wished that you did, but you being the oblivious teenager you were, had no idea about his hidden affection. Years passed, he became a successful midfielder, you found your way to a dream job, so life was ready to throw a major curveball your way.

The weekend of your 24th birthday comes around and you made plans to go back to Portsmouth to be with some friends. You let your parents rope you in to stay at the house for the few days that you're back home. Your friends file into your bedroom like old times, getting ready for the night you have planned that may involve a few too many drinks and music that is way too loud to be acceptable. Once you've shimmied into the dress you got for the occasion, your friends let out whistles, "nice choice Y/N, I'd sleep with you" one of them says making you laugh, "I'll take that as a good sign" you reply while grabbing your phone and wallet, "it is, now let's get out of here and celebrate" another friend exclaims before all of you leave the house.

When shots get passed around in the club you've chosen for your birthday celebration you can't help but smile and feel happy. You down the shot you've been handed, lowering your head then letting out a quiet noise of surprise when you spot a pair of brown eyes that was all over the news in the past watching the action. "What's happened? Shot too strong?" your eyes move to your friends, "yeah I clearly need to get reacquainted" they laugh which makes you do the same, "well let's get that started, I'll get the drinks you go dance your heart out" before you can object you're pulled away from the bar by your friends. Quickly finding some space to dance with them in the crowded club, another smile appearing on your face at the good time you're having.

"Y/N there's a lad staring you down, should we throw him dirty looks" you turn your head to where your friends tilted theirs to be discreet. The second you see that it's the same brown eyes from earlier you shake your head, "it's alright, he's just someone I went to school with" they grin at your response, "that beautiful man went to school with you, get over there and flirt it up" you snort, "no way, I'll just make a fool of myself, plus he probably doesn't remember me" they scoff and easily push you in the direction of the now successful footballer. "It's your birthday, go get laid" they shout gaining the attention of the strangers surrounding you, a deep blush covers your cheeks as you curse your friends the whole way over to your former classmate.

"What brings the famous Mason Mount back home?" You ask while finding the spot next to him. He looks up from his drink at the question, he immediately smiles with dimples on full display, "family time during the season" he replies so you nod. "Aren't you kinda bold to come to a club without any security or something" he chuckles which makes you smile, "then you never would've come over here Y/N" the smile leaves your face while your eyes widen in surprise, "how'd you know my name?" he shrugs, "you never forget the girl you fancied in school".

Your breath catches at his confession and you take a huge swig of your drink to avoid having to respond to the footballer, as an awkward tension fills the air between you two. "Why didn't you say anything?" he places a hand on the back of his neck smiling sheepishly, "you never noticed me, didn't think you wanted to hang around someone like me" someone bumps you, making you stumble into Mason's chest, your eyes peering up at his dark ones, your heart fluttering when you remember the whispered confessions between you and your friends about the cute footy players all of those years ago. "Then I left for Chelsea so I figured there was no point trying to get your attention when I couldn't be here with you" he mumbles quietly while slipping a hand around your waist to steady you, his gentle touch makes you smile and place a hand against his chest, "I'm here right now, in this club on my birthday spending precious seconds with no one other than you Mason" he lifts an eyebrow at your whispered words, you tilt your head towards his, "so what are you going to do with this opportunity?" you add while moving your hand up to his shoulder. "Fuck y/n" he breathes out while tightening his hold on your waist, you bite your lip cheekily, "I fancied you too Mason, you should've heard me babbling to my mates about you" he sucks in a breath and you feel him tense up. You see his eyes swirl with various emotions before he finally lowers his head to kiss you, cautious at first but you tug him closer to encourage the embrace.

The next morning you snuggle further into what you think is a pillow. When an arm comes around you a smile comes to your face before you remember what happened last night. Your eyes open and you peer over your shoulder to see Mason already smiling down at you. "Thought last night was a dream" he murmurs, you rotate in his arms to be able to press a soft kiss to his lips, his hands moving to your hips to bring you on top of him, "it was definitely real" you reply when pulling away slightly. He hums then winds his arms around you, pushing your body into his, getting a giggle out of you as your cheek rests on his chest. "Don't leave" you smile at his plea, "gotta get back to my parents house Mase, my things are there then I need to go back to London for work" he lifts his head and smiles, "London?" you nod while brushing your fingers along his cheek. "Does that mean I can see you again after this?" you smile at the hope in his voice, "I'd really like that Mase" he grins then you drop your lips to his for a quick kiss.

"I can't believe this" you mumble quietly when getting off of the midfielder to leave the bed to slide on your dress from last night, "care to elaborate on that Y/N?" he asks from his spot on the bed. "Sixteen year old me would be in disbelief at this whole sleeping with her crush situation" he laughs which makes you smile and turn around to see him out of bed and approaching you in there quick strides. "Glad that it was good for you" you giggle as he pulls you forward by your hips, your fingers toying with the waistband of his joggers, "just don't disappear like the first time" he cradles the side of your face to bring you in for another kiss, this one slower and with a silent promise included. "Not letting the girl of my dreams slip through my fingers again" he explains when pulling away, "good, now I really need to go" he nods and you step out of his arms to grab your phone and wallet from where they were dropped last night, "see you in London Mase" you add before leaving the hotel room, he smiles in response making the smile on your face grow. The cloud nine feeling sticking with you the whole way home and further more to London.
