The first date was all that you and Mason needed to kickstart your relationship. Texts and FaceTime calls were exchanged regularly, a lot of the time you would catch him on video just before he would go to sleep at his coziest. That version of Mason quickly became your favourite. Neither of you were naïve enough to think that no one knew about the relationship but you didn't go out of your way to broadcast that you were together. Other people's sneaky photos on social media did all of the necessary work of launching the relationship in the weeks after that first date. Most of the candid photos came from your friends and his friends, both groups in agreement that you've become unbearable since officially getting together. Luckily everyone gets along and your friends get over the fact that Mason's friends are all professional footballers.

It's when you go to your first United match as Mason's girlfriend that you realize how big of a deal it is that he's off the market. Luckily your friends are with you to fend off the fans that feel you need to know their two cents about your relationship. The footballer was concerned about you watching in the stadium with all the regular fans but you told him that the fancy players box wasn't necessary, especially with your two friends by your side.

The whole first half of the match there's nothing out of the ordinary as you watch Mason and his team run circles around their opponent. When the halftime whistle is blown you sit back in your seat and let out a sigh. "Is it always this stressful?" you ask, "more or less yeah" your friend replies so you rub your tired eyes. "It's different isn't it?" you look at her in confusion, "what do you mean?" she smiles then squeezes your hand, "when you have someone out there to cheer for" you smile then nod, "yeah this sport means a lot to him so it now means a lot to me".

Suddenly a flash distracts you from the conversation so you turn to where it came from to see not only one person holding their phone up to take photos but several people getting a snap of you and your friends. "What the hell" your friend says with visible annoyance on her face, you place a hand on her knee to stop any rash reaction, "ignore them, it's not worth making a fuss" you tell her quietly. She whips her head in your direction with a shocked expression to replaced the annoyed one, "how are you so calm about this? I would've expected you to give them a piece of your mind" she exclaims. You clear your throat before replying, "I nearly did the first time it happened when I was out with Mason, he had to hold me back" her laugh makes you smile sheepishly because you aren't very proud of that moment. "He told me the same thing I told you because they're gonna get the photo anyway so there's no point fighting them" you explain and she relaxes in her seat, "I like that lad" she says so you smile, "me too" you add and sit back to wait for the match to resume for the second half.

Once the match concludes you and your friends stay in your seats to wait out the crowds that will be taking over the roads and sidewalks. You know that it'll be awhile until he's ready so you don't rush to get up even when there are no players left on the pitch. The plan is to meet Mason at his car and your friends insist on being with you for the wait just in case anything were to happen, knowing that United fans can be a little rowdy after a match.

When you think you've waited long enough in the stadium the three of you head to the player car park. On the way you need to pass by the fans that are waiting to meet their favourite footballers. "Omg is that Y/N!" the shout makes you freeze then look at your two friends who have also stopped. "She's definitely here to support Mase" you hear someone else say, "wait her friends are so pretty" another person mentions which makes you smile. "Mason needs to look out, you're a star now" your one friends mumbles, you wave away her ridiculous comment, "oh hush I'm no star" she shrugs then gestures to the fans who have shifted their focus to you with wide smiles on their faces. "I think we should go see your fans" your other friend suggests but you shake your head, "no way, I can't even kick a ball in a straight line this is meant for the footballers" she pouts so you take her arm to tug her in the direction of the car park, waving once to the crowd before focusing on going to yours and Mason's meeting place.

It's when you three are taking photos to remember the night that Mason walks up. Since you're the one taking the photo of your friends you don't see him approaching. "I don't get a picture" you jump and nearly drop the phone you're holding then spin around. You shove the footballer lightly, "don't do that" he smiles then wraps his arms around you, quickly tucking his face into the crook of your neck to leave feather light kisses against your skin. The affectionate gesture makes you smile and place a hand on his arm, "I'm so glad you came" he murmurs then lifts his head. "You're pretty great so I didn't mind watching" you reply and turn in his arms in time to see his smile. "Speaking of pretty great while I was signing stuff for the fans they didn't hold back on telling me how great you are" you blush then shrug it off, "I'm sure they're just sucking up to get you to sign more things for them" he hums then tugs you close. "I happen to agree with the fans on this particular topic" you shrug again then look into his dark eyes, "I want them to feel appreciated, it's the least I can do while being by your side" he huffs then lifts a hand to cradle the side of your face, "how'd I get so lucky to call you mine?" you place your hand over his before replying, "I don't know it must've been some kind of unexpected push from fate or maybe destiny" he rolls his eyes at your dreamy tone and it makes you giggle. "I hope it never stops pushing" he says then presses a kiss to your lips. After a few seconds you pull away from Mason with a smile very present on your face, "expect the unexpected is what they say right?" you say, he hums then moves some loose hair behind your ear, "sounds right darling and I can't wait to experience all of the unexpected moments with you by my side" you drop your hand to take his, "me and you Mase" he squeezes your hand then opens the passenger door for you. The two of you getting into his car before leaving the stadium together for what is sure to be the first of many and what feels like a full circle.
