Despite Pharoah's effort to keep me down, he wasn't putting enough strength into his hold. He still had that regretful look. It's almost like he's trying his best to prove he wasn't the enemy, even after he indirectly stated his alliance with Epimetheus.
His remorse bled between us, soaking the atmosphere with his silent apology. I clenched my jaw, feeling myself soften from the sincerity in his eyes. Yet his actions didn't make sense. "I thought you wanted Zion as a friend. Kidnapping his brother will only break whatever connection you've formed with him."
At the statement, Pharoah's lips pressed together in mild irritation. His eyes darted to the side before he spoke once more. "Do you trust me?"
My eyebrows furrowed in clear puzzlement. "Trust you? Why will I trust you after what you just did?"
As if remembering we weren't the only ones in this room, I peered at Vanni. Instead of the face of the griffin I knew so well, the sin of greed stared right back at me. My eyes widened as the realization settled -- the names finally clicking into place like a jigsaw puzzle. Vanni had always been a short version of Geovanni.
Shit! Why didn't I see this before?
Vanni and Killian had been the sins from day one. My thoughts drifted to the moment when Liam was acting strange. He had walked into the school building and sensed two strange presences. It's like he knew something was off about the exchange students but couldn't really place it. All this time they used the phantom ability to get under everyone's radar, even Eros.
