"I promise I will save you,

when you cannot stay afloat,

and if your tears can fill an ocean,

then for you I'll be a boat."

-Erin Hanson

~~~
You're swimming and you can't stay above water
the current takes you under
and just when you get a breath of air as you come up again
you're pulled under again
and again
and again
as usual
this is normal for you
and you're steadily losing oxygen
you're turning blue like the ocean you're swimming in
that ocean of your tears
and your sorrows
and your pain
and your regrets
and your sadness
that takes you
when ask where you're headed
you respond
"wherever the ocean takes me"
with a smile, a sad smile
a charming smile
a stunning smile
a captivating smile
that reels me in
hook, line, and sinker
you got a hold of me
and I can't let go
of you
of you
I won't let go of you
but the waves are crashing down
and I lose you
oh, i lose you
I lost you
how could I lose you so easily?
Your hand is torn from mine
and I'm left with nothing
nothing
nothing at all
I have nothing without you
so I float lazily down the current stream
with my back to the water
and my face to the sun
and my tears join the water
as I cry
I cry
I cry for you
saltwater invigorates your skin, they say
and I feel invigorated
I feel awake
I feel alive
but I'm swimming in your ocean
so the feeling floats away
after a while
by nightfall, I'm on the shore
I'm on a shore?
I'm on a shore!
Land!
I've found land
but an island is nothing
without you
without you, I have nothing
so I start crying again
and as my tears create a channel in the sand
leading to the ocean
adding to your ocean
I hear you shout my name
And I see you run towards me
scooping me up into your arms
and kissing me repeatedly
a longing on your lips
a longing you've longed for so long
a longing on my lips
intertwined among the rocks
and the sand
and the water
and you
and me
and the water looks refreshing now
because with your lips on mine
and your hand in my hand
the ocean doesn't seem so deep.
