This poem is dedicated to my favorite book of all time, "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. It's also dedicated to someone who reminded me of that story so much, I spent so many months waiting until I could convince that someone to read it. I hope they loved it as much as I do.
To that someone, stay gold, things are rough all over, and you can see the sunset real good from the West side too.

Some days, you remind me of Dallas Winston
because you're a born rebel
like he is
and you don't care for authority
you're tough and strong on the outside
but I know you're hurting on this inside
other days, you remind me of Sodapop Curtis
happy-go-lucky with charm to get the ladies
(I never could get you alone)
but you loved a girl, even when she left
and that's what made you most like Soda
(you're least like Two-Bit
but you do get your two bits in,
and you're not so much like Steve
but you are a good buddy like him)
you remind me of Darry Curtis
working so hard to be a provider
long hours of labor that no one else wants to do
but you tried to provide
and you did love, best you could
but you hid it behind a mask
because you were never one
to show that you were hurt
you remind me of Johnny
with big eyes, full of hurt, full of hope
(I've always loved your eyes)
and through it all, you made it
until the very end
and you saw the good in life
and the bad in life
but you managed to make it this far
and you became an unlikely hero to some
and everyone loves you
(I love you, Johnnycake)
most of all, you remind me of Ponyboy Curtis
because you've seen both sides
and you know what's wrong in this world
you know what's right in this world
you've learned from others
and you've learned from yourself
and you had a crush on Cherry Valance
but you never let on to that
a cigarette steadies you and kills you
and you probably love chocolate cake
and you're a reader
you're a writer
and you dig sunsets.
Things are rough all over, you said
but some people are gold, like you
and if the world fell to pieces
I think you and I would make it through
because we're gold.
