Continuing from the last part,
When Monami is investigating a case with Karan, she often feels like this -
She was trapped in the fog on the bottom of the hill, but Karan has arrived at the top, leisurely looking at the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains….
His “fantasy”, his next victim, his name and identity, his looked… How did Karan get those answered?
“Simple.” He said as he rested his arm on the window sill of the backseat of the car: “Jo male victim hain wahi baaki teeno victim se link karta hain. Ek baar jab tum uss link ko pehchan lo, toh tum work out kar sakte ho ki uski fantasy kya hain.”
It’s 2pm.
The sun is shining through the windows as Dorji Tashi drove everyone back to the police station. Both him and Bala was listening intently to Karan’s words.
So… the answer was hiding in the details. But there’s so much detail. It’s easy to overlook and hard to pick out ones that are important.
Karan solved the puzzle for all of them:
“Jo female victim hain Sonam woh ek sales assistant hain jo apna new role Thimphu me take up karne wali thi. Tashi Tobgay Thimphu me hi rehta hain. Aur woh... he is ready for a relationship, jiska matlab hain ki agar woh nahi karte toh most probably woh dono ek doosre se milte.. A beautiful outgoing single woman and a handsome but shy writer…. a perfect romance.”
Bala was bewildered: “Just because woh ek doosre se shyd milte.. No.2 ne unhe Marne ka decide kar liya?”
Karan corrected him: “Nahi. It’s not ‘shayad’. Didn’t No.1 arrange for the two of them to meet by capturing both of them?”
Everyone felt a chill down their spine.
“That’s sickening.” said Dorji Tashi.
Karan continued: “Namgay Wangchuk was a primary teacher between 2008-20021. So according to Tashi Tobgay’s age, woh uss waqt primary school me tha. No 1 ko m Namgay Wangchuk jaisa teacher chahiye tha. Aisa jo ek father jaisa bhi ho aur ek acha mentor bhi ho. Aisa insaan jo uske respect ke layak ho..”
Tshering Penjor ek akela, tej dimag wala honhar bachha tha jisne apne maa baap ko kho diya tha. Like Tashi Tobgay, usse bhi likhna pasand tha- remember the awards he received for winning a writing competition? aur woh superhero comic books? Agar woh Tashi Tobgay ka beta hota toh, he would admire and adore Tashi Tobgay, and probably woh ussi ke footsteps follow karta aur bada hokar ek writer banta- ek perfect son..”
Yeh uss ki fantasy hain. He dreams of being Tashi Tobgay. A talented writer. He wanted to replace him. And he went around to find the best lover, father and son for himself. But because his fantasy is mixed with reality of what he experienced in his childhood, this new family is also filled with betrayal and deception. Therefore he tortured & killed them - his way of keeping them for himself forever.
Dorji Tashi couldn't believe what he is hearing: “But yeh sab toh sirf uske dimag me hain. Usne chaar logon ko jinhe woh janta bhi nahi hain unhe maar diya just to satisfy his fantasy?”
Karan answered: “The links he established in the four victims’ life is a good enough motive for a twisted psychopath. Furthermore, yeh iska bhi answer hain ki woh Bhutan kyon aaya. Long distance travel karn.. yeh expose hone ki risk badha deta gain. Also Bhutan ek bahut choti country hain, with a highly proficient and efficient police force. Koi logical reason nahi hain ki woh yahan kyon aaya hoga. Except ki usse 2023 Bhutan Galaxy Writing Award Ceremony ko attend karna tha. Yeh jab woh yahan aata uske doosre hi din held hui thi. Jaisa ki maine phle kaha woh ek egoistic anti& social psychopath hain. The reason woh yahan Bhutan rak aata was because he wanted to attend this event.”
