Extra Story-3 Henpecked Husband

Continuing from the last part,

A number of serial killings happened in early February in Darjeeling.

The police in Darjeeling were furious and eager to crack the cases as soon as possible. Since the famous criminal psychologist Professor Karan Shergill and his assistant Ms Mahajan was in town to visit their family, the Darjeeling Police Department has invited them to join in the investigation.

On the day of the first meeting. 

It was a sunny day with a cool breeze. It’s 7:30 am. The police officers arrived at the crime scene. The meeting with Professor Shergill and Ms Mahajan was scheduled at 8:00am. When they walked past the area that was cordoned off to the public, they saw a beautiful lady in her twenties. With plastic gloves and shoes on, she was bending down and examining the blood stains on the ground. A man stood behind her. He was leisurely drinking a cup of coffee. 

The lady looked up when she saw the officers. She gave a sweet smile: “Hi. Main Monami Mahajan Shergill. I am from the Criminal Psychology Team under the Department of National Securities..“

All the police officers that came weee men. Their faces brightened as they realised they will be working with a pretty lady. They took turns to introduce themselves to Monami.  One of the officers in his thirties recognised her: “Monami, main Anirudh. Tumhe yaad hain? Jab tum aur Sid police station aate the tab main tum logon ka dhyan rakhta tha.. wow.. tum kitni badi ho gayi ho.. Deepak sir tumhe aaj dekhte toh bahut khush hote... You are such a pretty girl now!”

Monami was about to reply when they heard a faint mocking smile from behind. 

Monami was slightly embarrassed. Karan walked up and nodded to the crowd. Then he introduced himself: “Hi. I am Karan Shergill.”

Everyone was silent. They waited eagerly for what Karan has to say about the case. But instead, Karan turned to Monami and said: “Main car me tumhara intezar karunga.”  Then he turned back to face everyone else: “Goodbye.”

So everyone watched as the alleged super detective walks off without giving any contribution. 

“Well…”Monami smiled and turn everyone’s attention onto her again: “chaliye hum criminal ko profile karte hain.. Kuch baatein hain jis par aapko dhyan rakhna hoga...”

The case went well. Based on the profile Monami provided, the police identified seven suspects. They took five days to interview the suspects but they could not figure out who is the killer. Then Monami came to the office.  It only took her one day get a confession. Superior interrogation skills, lie detection, micro expression observations… she used a variety of tools, and she was very proficient in all of them. It’s an eye opener for the Darjeeling Police. 

Compared to Monami, Karan was like the arrogant man who has no actual skills. They have decided his fame was overrated. When Monami was briefing the team, Karan was taking a nap in the car. When Monami was interrogating the suspects, he came in with 'two heart shaped lunch boxes with heart shaped dishes' for Monami and himself. And he left promptly after dinner.  Even though the lunch boxes did look impressive, he was not a house husband… surely?  He is supposed to be a very good detective, but he certainly doesn't act like one. 

Sid was no longer working in Darjeeling. The officers that were involved in the ‘killer machine’ case years ago have either retired or transferred elsewhere. The new bunch of officers in Darjeeling have not worked with Karan before. And based on what they have seen so far, they have a very mediocre impression of this legendary detective.
