✰ Jon's POV: ✰
Today is THE day... I'm a nervous wreck, to say the least. Me and Ashland are getting married. After 2 months of non-stop planning, the day has finally come. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't emotional. I'm feeling so many different things; excitement, nervousness, and happiness.
Excited to be marrying my best friend, nervous for the reception and ceremony itself, and happy because we'll be spending our lives together united as one; even though we already were planning on spending the rest of our lives together, a whole ass wedding party to celebrate this makes it feel so much more surreal.
Currently though, I was having my dad help tie my tie for my suit and after he helped out, he had a soft smile across his lips and his eyes were glossy with tears. Jeez, Dad! He can't even wait until me and Ash say 'I do' before crying? Shit, he's going to make me start bawling my eyes out too, ha.
I started to anxiously grabbed at the light blue colored tie that was on my suit, trying to figure out the right words to say in response to my dad's tears. Growing up, my dad never really cried- very rarely would he cry so experiencing this is kind of weird..
I placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder in response and smiled softly, "Don't cry, Pops.. The wedding hasn't even started yet!"
Dad laughed and shook his head from side to side, "I know, son. It's just that... I'm so happy for you and Ashland. Both of you deserve this happiness; and my eyes are definitely not goin' to be dry when I walk her down the aisle."
"I hear ya on that; I'm really excited to see how breathtakingly beautiful she's goin' to look in her wedding dress. She could show up to the altar in a t-shirt and sweatpants and still, I'd think she is the most gorgeous woman in the world. Dad, I can't believe I'm marrying her! I hope she's still goin' to want me fifty years from now," I joked.
He cut his eyes at me and scoffed, "Jonathan, believe me, what you and Ash have is the real deal. As long as you two have each other and God, you two will be together for the rest of y'all's lives."
I grinned from ear to ear, hugging my father tightly, "You're right, Pops. I'm so grateful I have had you to look up to for the past 29, almost 30 years. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be the man I am today."
We shared our hug for an extra minute or so until Brad walked into the room, raising an eyebrow at the two of us.
"Crap! Am I interrupting some fatherly-son bonding time? If so, I can leave and come back la-"
"Bradley, come on in; I'm just having to make sure my old man here doesn't cry his eyes out before the ceremony, I replied, laughing out loud.
He was very taken aback by me calling him by his actual name and then rolled his eyes, "Okay, but do NOT call me Bradley every again."
Me and Dad laughed endlessly at Brad's remark; he soon folded and laughed as well. That made the nerves in my body exit out rather quickly. I'm more antsy than anything. I wish it was time to say 'I do' already! I'm ready to change Ash's last name to mine, I'm ready to unite our love as one for the rest of our life!
**
The starting music for the guests entering the venue and getting seated was blaring which made me 10 times more nervous now that it's getting closer to time! It's insane how fast life changes. One minute you're down in the dumps about an ex-girlfriend, the next, you're about to get married to your best friend turned soulmate. God works in mysterious ways, that's for dang sure... He sure did do an amazing job at guiding me and Ash to where we needed to be all along.
