"What are you doing?" Elena asked as she watched Holly go through boxes and boxes filled with family antiques. Elena recognize Aunt Flora's old fan. "You hate going through this stuff, you call it junk."

"I do hate it, and it's still junk. But since we're pretending to help Damon he put me on Jonathan Gilbert journal duty. I thought I should do it before I go to work." She bit her lip. "Is it wrong that I feel guilty? I mean the guy has been wanting to get Katherine back for 145 years and it's not like he has many friends who are willing to help him."

"Holly," Elena said. "You heard Stefan, yes getting Katherine back would get rid of Damon, but what are we going to do about the other tomb vampires? I doubt they are going to settle like nothing happened."

Holly sighed. "True, it's just guilt can be a nasty little bitch." She frowned when she noticed the empty box. "That's weird, I always see it in here, the minute I need it, and it conveniently disappears."

"What are you two looking for?" Jeremy asked as he came into the kitchen.

"Jonathan Gilbert's journal." Elena chirped. "Have you see it?"

Jeremy nodded. "Did a history project on it?"

"Where is it?" Holly asked him.

"I gave it to Mr. Saltzman he asked me if he could take a look."

Alaric could hear the buzzing coming from the copy machines as the papers from Jonathan Gilbert's journal appeared. The guy knew more about vampires than he was given credit for. Once the last copy was safely tucked away Alaric put back the journal on his desk.

He stood up straighter when he heard footsteps. Grabbing the gun that was loaded with wooden bullets Alaric headed towards the hallway. He saw a flash and he quickly started shooting.

Stefan easily grabbed the gun and threw it towards the floor, cornering Alaric into one of the seats. "I'm not going to hurt you. Now who are you?"

"I'm a teacher." Alaric said weakly.

Stefan raised an eyebrow. "Do you honestly want to do this the hard way?"

"I'm also a historian, some interesting events lead me to this town," he saw that Stefan wasn't buying it. "My wife she spend years studying paranormal activity in this area. Her work led me here."

"Where's your wife?"

"Dead." Alaric chuckled harshly. "She was killed by a vampire."

Stefan frowned. "Where's the Gilbert journal?"

Alaric didn't respond for a few minutes. "It's on my desk."

Stefan look back and saw the empty desk. "No, it isn't."

Holly closed the door behind her right after her shift she was feeling sweaty and tired and just really wanted to get out of the maroon shirt she was wearing and the dark jeans and order take out for dinner.

She frowned when she smelled something good cooking and someone chopping vegetables. That was weird, Aunt Jenna never cooked, and she like the rest of the Gilbert girls were incapable of cooking.

Half confused she stumbled into the kitchen and almost jumped back in surprise when she saw Damon chopping carrots while Jenna drank a glass of wine and looked at Damon with silent admiration.

"Hey, how was work?" Jenna asked.

"Oh, it was fine." She turned back to Damon. "What are you doing here?"

Even though the comment was rude, Holly could hear the guilt echoing in her voice. Could Damon?

"Cooking dinner. I hope you're a fan of Italian." He raised an eyebrow. "Is Stefan or Elena with you?"
