SHMONEY

Sari was finally moved into her new home.

And going from an apartment to a two story house was tough and a little on the expensive side. She needed more decorations and a few extra pieces of furniture for other rooms, but luckily, her parents had a few things in storage -- that were still in great shape -- to give away.

And her parents were the best, really just wanting to give away furniture to their daughter. She was so happy and grateful they didn't hang a price over her head.

What made her even more grateful was the fact they were helping her unpack.

"Baby, you have a lot of kitchen stuff just for one person," her dad, Rodney stated with a laugh. He was tall -- around six feet four inches -- with light skin, a bald head, and the best looking peppered beard and mustache she had ever seen.

"A lot of that stuff just came out of boxes I had," Sari replied with a huff as she hung up a few more pictures, "plenty of forks and glass sets. You can have some of you want."

"Where are they?"

"Those boxes beside you. New stuff."

"Sari!" her mom called from upstairs. She told her dad she'd be back and walked up the steps to the bathroom, where her mom was setting up the decor.

"Yes, ma'am?"

"Some of this doesn't match, dear," she replied. Her name was Patricia and basically looked just like her daughter almost. She was slimmer and still taller by a few inches. Both of her parents were in the military when she was young, so their builds were like...lean. And Sari was a short little chubby thing.

"Really? What do I need to get?" Sari asked in wonder.

"Well, what's the theme?"

"There is no theme, ma. I just find cute stuff to put in the bathroom."

"Okay, one, no. Don't do that. Two, you have a house now!" she said excitedly, "and your bathrooms have to have some sort of color scheme to them."

"What colors should I have then?" her mom was an interior decorator for high end clients, so she knew what she was talking about.

"I was thinking of like dark brown, you already have the glass counter and shower doors, ya know? and like a white finish."

"You want my bathroom to look like a Klondike Bar?"

"Sari," Patricia deadpanned, "girl, just go buy some dark brown stuff, the same dark brown, you hear me? And you'll be fine after that."

"Okay, so what else have you done up here?" Sari asked, leaving the bathroom and walking down the hall.

"Your room and the guest room."

"Ma, you're on a roll, I see," she opened her bedroom door and smiled big, "and it's beautiful, gosh."

"I just switched your stuff around," and her mom was always modest when Sari complimented her, "and that first drawer of the dresser..."

"I told you not to unpack that box, mother!" Sari was highly embarrassed now, knowing Patricia looked through her unmentionables. Toys and plenty plenty of thongs and gels and those handcuffs Tasha bought her for her birthday. God.

"And Jerald told me you have a boyfriend so why would you need this stuff?"

What the hell? "Jerald said what?"

"He said you gotta boy--"

"I hate him," Sari left the and entered the guest room, loving the scheme but too shocked at Jerald's big mouth. She wanted to tell them.

"What's so bad about it, babe?" Patricia followed after her, "he's a good boy, right?"

"Yeah, but I wanted to tell you guys!" Sari whined like a kid and stomped her foot.

"At least your father doesn't know--"

"Doesn't know what?" Rodney stepped in and Sari just groaned.

"About Sari's boyfriend--"

"Mom!"

"What?" she snickered, turning around and walking downstairs. Sari followed and so did her dad, strolling into the living room.

"So you do have a boyfriend?" Rodney asked.

"You don't believe me?"

"No, just...Jerald told me and I didn't think it was true. 'Cause any daughter of mine would tell me before anyone else said it."

"Daddy, I meant to tell you but he beat me to it. Plus, Zayn's a little nervous."

"For what?"

"Because I told him you two were in the military," she sighed, opening the stainless steel fridge and smiling at it, "beautiful."

"Well, then he's a wimp," Rodney shrugged, sitting at the island counter.

"The wimpiest, dad. He really is a wimp but he's super cute," she smiled then frowned because she hadn't heard from Zayn all day.

"Okay, Pat, what are we doing this week?"

"It's Daneisha's twenty first birthday Saturday," she answered, "bring Zayn, Sari."

"Mom--"

"It wasn't a question," Patricia rolled her eyes at her daughter, "thank you, dear."

"You're welcome, mother," Sari huffed and put her hand under her chin, "so what have you been up to?"

"I'm on vacation this week," Rodney said, "yup, decided I could use some of my vacation hours to chill for the week."

"Yeah, 'cause you never take days off," Pat plucked his forehead and smiled, "tell her how many hours you have left still."

"Two hundred and seventy eight," he muttered proudly, "I mean, besides you and RJ's graduations and a few of your sick days, I haven't take off much."

"And the one vacation two years ago, dad," Sari pointed out. Her phone rang and Zayn's name popped up on the screen. Perfect timing. "Hey."

"Hey, Bear," he cleared his throat into the phone and she grimaced, "you took off today?"

"Unfortunately," her parents stared at her expectantly and she just walked away from them, "I had to unpack everything."

"What? By yourself?"

"No, my mom and dad are helping me."

"Okay then. Guess I'm not needed."

"You are needed you goof. Just not now. You can help me later."

"What does that mean?" he purred, "are you parents still there?"

"Yes -- dad!"

Rodney snatched the phone from her and put it to his ear. "Ay! Who dis?"

"Oh my God."

"Rodney," Patricia giggled, standing in front of him. Her parents were such children.

"Zayn? What the hell kind of name--"

"Dad!"

"Yeah, cool. So it's our niece's twenty first on Saturday and in case Cesaria wasn't going to say anything, I'm inviting you. I expect you to be there, ya hear?"

Sari pressed her ear to the other side of the phone, trying to hear his response.

"Uh, okay."

"And my daughter will talk to you later. Got her giggling and shit."

"Rodney Dwayne Conrad!" Sari yelled when he hung up the phone, "what in the world is your problem?"

"Love you, Sari," he kissed her forehead and handed the phone back to her.
