WIVES

I remember the day we got married, how you looked at me.

baby breaths peeking out from a soft neckline of fragile honeysuckles.

yellow roses knotted to your curls.

caramel lips wearing a dark rose lipstick.

Trails of burgundy love mapped out all over my virginal skin.

We tattooed love onto our souls.

each line carving a spot of forever.

I heard the sounds of saints calling out into the nights.

they said the darkness was the heavens.

love was the light shining above us.

spots of lights in my eyes flickered from your aura, your halo etched out markings.

I made your puppy run like it was escaping caged up horrors.

panting wildly searching for the love it craved.

fetching back to a grown woman.

foolish child taught by the teacher called heartache.

Woman no longer keeping her love in steel houses.

truthful slurred speech searched the globe for love that night.

ending up at the beginning, inside my impatient embrace.

So I did the only thing I could do to make it right.

took your leash, cutting it away,

making you my lover, my wife ...for life.
