Unlike Any Other

I thought all roses were the same but I hadn't ever seen a rose like you before.

the raindrops rejoiced as they touched you in the garden park.

the swings, basketball hoops, they all couldn't take their eyes off of you, as they admired your soft strength, the passionate love affair between you and the earth.

I watched you change with the seasons.

how you became dark in the sunlight,

withering a bit in the moonlight.

Seen you grow from a tiny seed of promise,

into a gorgeous creation no one could have ever imagined before you existed.

Then in sadness I watched you die in the first autumn snow,

my strength unable to save you, as petal by petal you were buried under the soils.

tears from my eyes fell faster than a downpour, in anguish my hope was gone.

my memory raced around trying to remember ever beautiful arch of your stems,

all the glorious colors of your blossom.

How was I to know you weren't over yet?

I thought all roses were the same but I had never seen any like you before.

In the other garden I couldn't believe my eyes, it was years since my eyes had glowed at your beauty.

dawning of understanding awakened in me, you had only traveled not died.

searching for someone to see you were not like any other rose,

for them to look and see your unique beauty.

which is why I when I found you I dug you up,

somehow you knew I knew.

this is where I gave you a name, where you rise up every spring until fall,

where you will stay forever, where you found your  home.
