I said I would wait, you thought that meant you had forever to come back.
to play , to tease, those riddles you loved rolling up your sleeves.
I said I would wait, you thought that meant I would always be here to love.
when the others you ran to gave you up, left you without a ride, made you cry,
you thought I would be there by your side, tissue in hand, comfort your heart and hold it in my hands.
I said I would wait, I kept my word.
alone for so long I forgot what it felt like to be happy.
when I knew I was beginning to leave, I felt guilty enough to fight it with every tooth in my head. Gnawing at the possibility of loving someone new.
Then I thought about it, wondering why I owed you more time to make up your mind?
how you left me with no promise of ever coming back.
If you think I was lying when I said I would wait, I wasn't, I just did not mean forever.
you waited a little too long and you came back way too late.
