Translation guide (Probably is wrong, but we're gonna roll with it):

mon amour=my love

attendez=wait

S'il vous plaît=please

Tu es à la maison!=You're home

Oh Dieu, je t'ai manqué=Oh God, I missed you

"Gilbert, please, stay with me," you beg.

Your husband shakes his head slowly. "Mon amour, I have to help."

"At least, let me come with you."

He sighs. "It's not safe for you."

You stomp your foot. "Then it's not safe for you!"

"(Y/N), I will not let you get hurt!"

You both stare at each other before you speak up. "Could I stay with the other wives?"

"I would love nothing more, but I would rather you stay here. The villagers have started to get rowdy. They need someone with a good head on their shoulders to keep them in line."

You sigh and give in. "Fine, but I'm not leaving your side until you leave."

He smiles and kisses your forehead. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Your husband's letters started to get fewer and fewer the longer he remained in America. You were incredibly worried about him. Every time you would get a letter from him, you would breathe a sigh of relief; you knew war was hard on everyone, but being on a different continent than Gilbert was really taking its toll on you.

You pull your shawl tighter around your shoulders as you walk through the city to the docks. You had heard that the war ended a while ago, so every day since then you would walk to the docks and check for Gilbert.

Every time you see a ship approaching, you straighten up a bit, just in case it is Gilbert. It's starting to get dark, and you still haven't seen him. You sigh and tell yourself that after the next boat comes, you'll go home. You have no idea when the war actually ended, but you knew that the other soldiers from the area have already come home.

You see a ship slowly approach the docks and watch it until a group of disheveled men walk off. Sighing, you turn to walk off, tears in your eyes.

"Mon amour!" a familiar voice exclaims. "Attendez! S'il vous plaît."

You immediately turn and run towards him. "Gilbert! Tu es à la maison! Oh Dieu, je t'ai manqué!"

He engulfs you in a hug. "You have no idea how much I wanted to come home. I am so sorry I took so long."

"None of that matters," you reply. "All that matters is that you're home now."

He holds your hand as you walk back home. He tells you everything that happened while he was away and listens to your stories of rowdy villagers, who you may or may not have helped greatly and told that they had an ally in America.

As soon as you get back to your house, you pull him down to the bed with you. "You owe me cuddles after all the stress you've put me through."

He laughs. "I know, mon amour. I know."
