You were honestly beginning to question your sanity, you understood that this game coming up was important but Cheryl's incessant screeching hadn't eased up in the past three hours and you were coping the most of it today. Personally, you blamed Archie, it was his fault you kept screwing up the routines, you just couldn't focus on the steps when he was running around less than 50 feet away. He just looked so damn good in his uniform. Why did you have to practise out on the field?
"Y/N!" Your eyes snapped back to Cheryl, glaring at you, 'I'm sorry, is our practice interrupting your staring, or can we get back to work?" You swallowed the lump in your throat and chuckled nervously.
"Uh, sorry, I was distracted." You mumbled, shaking your head to try and clear some of the thoughts that were clouding your focus.
"Obviously." She huffed, turning back to the other girls and trying to conduct practice, no one really seemed that into it today, but you weren't surprised by that. You were standing in the middle of a field in short skirts and thin sleeves, the wind was freezing and you were about a million percent sure it was about to start raining. If it was game night you'd understand, but it was just a practice and you had a space inside specifically for this. It was becoming more and more obvious that Cheryl just wanted you to be absolutely miserable.
The torture lasted another hour before she finally let up, by this time it was definitely raining, so hard in fact that you thought your bones might be soaking up a bit of the moisture. You couldn't hear Cheryl over the pounding droplets and you could barely see two feet in front of you, Betty had slipped three times, and you almost gone down at least six. If it hadn't been for the horrific weather conditions you were sure Cheryl would have kept you there for another two hours but fortunately she allowed you to go when one girl slipping ended in a five cheerleader pile up and a consequent mud wrestling match when every tried to get up, luckily, you avoided that.
The change room was filled with girls nursing their injuries and trying to wash off without hitting the sore spots, your luck seemed to end here though because you'd left all your other clothes in Archie's truck. He was driving you home and you'd just forgotten to get out your other clothes, which left you drenched and shivering, just wanting to get home and snuggle under your covers for a few years. You had to run across the parking lot to get to Archie's truck, mainly because you were freezing, after all, it's not like you could get any wetter than you already were.
You climbed into the back, smiling at your boyfriend in the rear-view mirror, "I assume you're back there to get changed?" he chuckled and you stuck out your tongue, he turned around in his seat to look at you properly, "Jesus, Y/N, you know you're not meant to shower in your uniform right?"
"Shut up, Andrews." You rolled your eyes, grabbing your bag and towel from off the floor, trying to dry yourself slightly, "Your coach isn't a sadist who makes you run routines until your bones are frozen."
"Hey! I was in the rain too!" Archie whined, faking offence.
"Yeah, for like ten minutes! Because coach had the good sense to pull the team off the field when a god damn monsoon started." You grumbled, wiggling out of your skirt and pulling off your top, you glanced up and caught Archie's eyes in the mirror, looking you over. You chuckled to yourself and pulled your towel up around your shoulders to dry yourself.
"Could you stop staring, maybe?" You asked, raising an eyebrow at him in the mirror, he cleared his throat awkwardly and looked away quickly.
"Sorry, spaced out for a minute." He mumbled nervously, staring almost too intensely at the raindrops hitting the windshield.
"I take it as a compliment honestly, but if you're going to see me naked I'd rather be warm and comfortable and not in the midst of contracting hypothermia." You teased and he laughed under his breath, nodding a little.
You wiggled into the shorts you'd packed with damp legs, thanking your past self over and over for opting out of jeans, you dried of what you could of your hair and ditched the towel, pulling your t-shirt over your head and sighing happily as you crawled back through the gap in the front seats to sit beside Archie.
"You warm enough?" He asked and you turned to him, curling up in your seat and smiling softly.
"I'll be alright." You shrugged, you'd be alright when you got home and had a shower that got this chill out of you that had wiggled its way down to your core, "I'm just glad your dad let you borrow the truck today." Archie smiled a little and reached over into the back seat, pulling his letterman jacket into the front and holding it out to you.
"Put it on." He sighed softly.
"I'll get it wet, babe." You hummed, looking up at him, "I don't want to ruin it."
"It'll dry, now put it on before you start sneezing all over me." He smiled, a soft and gentle smile that you loved on him, you nodded a little and shuffled forward to pull it over your shoulders, shuffling back in your seat and snuggling into it. It was at least five sizes too big for you and you could probably curl up into it and live as a snail if you wanted to. It smelt like him, and it was warm like him, it felt safe.
As you drove home you felt his eyes constantly drifting to you, he'd glance at you every five seconds, and you leant your head gently against the window, watching his reflection as he kept turning back to you, looking at you with something in his eyes that made your heart burn. It almost warmed you up more than his jacket did. When you pulled up outside Archie's house you sighed and puled yourself upright, looking at your boyfriend adoringly.
"Please, let me drive you home." He pleaded and you shook your head.
"My dad would kill me, he'd rather I get frostbite than a boyfriend." You sighed, unbuckling your seat beat and turning around to face him, kneeling on the seat. "Fortunately, he doesn't have to know everything that goes on."
"Thank god for that." Archie breathed out slowly, looking you over again, "You look so good in my jacket, you should wear it to school."
"It's a bit cliché, isn't it?" You asked, blushing slightly and brushing your hair back from your face.
"Yeah," he said, shrugging a little, "but so is the cheerleader dating the football player, and that's working out for me pretty well so far. Will you wear it for me?"
"Of course I will." You mumbled softly, crawling across and putting your hands on the edge of his seat and leaning over to kiss him gently, he smiled against your lips and his hand moved to the back of your neck pulling you deeper into the kiss, he pulled back for a moment, moving his hands to pull you across into his lap. You squeaked quietly at the suddenness, but he lifted you like you were nothing and you were sitting across his lap, your back leaning against his door. "Always the show off." You smirked at him.
"Only for you though." He grinned back and you rolled your eyes, placing your hands either side of his neck and tracing along his jawline with your thumbs as you leaned in to kiss him again, he sighed contentedly and his arms wrapped around your waist underneath his jacket, you shifted, moving to straddle his lap so you could pull him in closer to you. You ran one of your hands down his chest, you felt his hands move to your hips and creep up under your shirt to rest on your waist his hands were warm and strong, it felt nice to be held the way he held you. Your other hand slipped into his hair and tangled around your fingers, your hips moved instinctively against his and her groaned against your lips, you hummed back quietly, moving your lips along his jaw line and onto his neck as his grip tightened on your waist.
"So, are you kids gonna come inside or...?" You jumped back slightly, almost falling against the steering wheel, thankfully in his shock, Archie's grip had only tightened and he kept you upright.
"D-da, we were just, uh, just- uhm?" You listened to your boyfriend stutter hopelessly for a moment, cringing slightly, Fred was standing at the passenger door which was handing open, staring at you and his son pressed together in the driver's seat, an unreadable expression on his face, apparently it had stopped raining. He leaned forward and extended his hand towards you.
"Hi, I'm Archie's dad." He introduced himself and you reached over to shake his hand.
"Hi, I'm Y/N, it's nice to meet you Mr. Andrews." You said rather awkwardly.
"Please, call me Fred." He smiled kindly and you cleared your throat.
"Ah, yes, thanks... well, I should be going." You said quickly, opening Archie's door and climbing out as gracefully as possible, you waved at Archie, clearing your throat, "Uhm, I'll see you later." You took that opportunity to leave, walking quickly away in the direction of your own home. You weren't quite sure exactly how to explain Archie's jacket to your father, but there was no way you were going back now.
Fred sat down in the passenger's seat and sat in silence with his son for a moment. "She seems nice." He said simply.
"Yeah, yeah she is." Archie shuffled uncomfortably.
"She's cute too."
"That she is."
"I like that she's your age."
"DAD!"
