"Ryder, no!"

"Yes, Kristin."

Kristin got up and followed him out of the room.

"That's not fair," she demanded, trying to catch up with him.

"Actually it is," he replied without turning around, "Evelyn lost her chance. She isn't going to be your guard anymore."

"But I want to go to town."

"Then go," he shrugged.

"With an actual guard," he added before she could speak up.

"Ryder," she tried making her voice sound serious.

He sighed and turned to face her.

"I get that you're mad about the whole drinking thing, but she promised it wouldn't happen again. Plus, she is a great guard. She is one of the top fighters."

Ryder continued looking at Kristin with a bored expression.

She walked over and looked up at him.

"Ryder," she repeated, widening her eyes at him.

"Stop," he shook his head and walked away.

Kristin narrowed her eyes, thinking of a different way to persuade him.

"Kristin, I said no," Ryder sat down behind his desk and opened his laptop.

She rolled her eyes and walked over to sit on his desk.

"What are you doing?" she asked, curious.

"Pack stuff," he said, annoyed with her.

"What kind of pack stuff?" she pressed.

Ryder ignored her, continuing to type.

Kristin reached over and closed his laptop, earning her a growl.

"Look, I'll stop annoying you if you let me go to town with Evelyn," she shrugged.

Ryder gave her a flat look, "How many times do I have to tell you—"

Kristin hopped off the desk, sitting in his lap instead. She didn't know when she got the confidence to do this, but she really wanted to keep Evelyn as a guard. She felt as though Evelyn actually understood her, which was refreshing.

"I'm sorry," she said quietly, wrapping her hands around his neck.

"No you aren't," he replied, putting his hands on her waist and pulling her closer.

She stopped her grin by kissing him, running her hand through his hair.

He quickly responded, easily keeping up with her.

After a couple of seconds she pulled away, blinking at him.

"If I get to keep Evelyn as my guard, I'll stay in pack territory," she reasoned.

Ryder looked at her for a few seconds before responding, "What's in it for me?"

Kristin raised a brow, "What do you want?"

He tightened his hold on her waist, "You know what I want."

Before she could blush, or freak out, she smiled at him, "Okay."

"Okay?" he asked, clearly not expecting her response.

She nodded, "If you let Evelyn be my guard, I will stay mates with you."

Ryder rolled his eyes at her, "Great."

"So is that a yes?" she asked, raising her brows.

He had a blank look on his face.

"Ryder?"

"F*ck," he suddenly said, running a hand through his hair.

"What's wrong?" she asked, realizing he had been mind linking someone.

"The rogues are attacking again," he slid her off his lap and stood up, "I have to go stop them."

Kristin followed him out of the office, filled with worry. She wasn't sure how safe it would be for him to go out there.

"You need guards," he distractingly said.

"Evelyn?" she asked one last time, knowing he'd say no again.

"Fine, but I'm also having more guards stand outside the house."

"Really?" she asked, surprised.

"Yes, just stay here. I should be back soon," he waited for her nod before hurrying out the door.

Chapter fifty.

I know it's short but I have three weeks left of my semester and I'm DEAD. So much to do and zero motivation.

Anyways I hope you had a good thanksgiving (or just a good weekend in general).

Vote if you'd like.
