- Feliciano's POV -

The past days were surprisingly calm despite the changes happening. Two more ghouls came in. Both, who were fairly young. And Gilbert started to be more social and going out. Actually, I've noticed that he prefers to be out than stay at the café. Which was weird because Gilbert usually is friendly to new people, but I have not seen him interact with Lily or Raivis since their arrival. Then again, he started to hang around someone new frequently, so he had been busy.

Although, I can't say it isn't the same for me.

I woke up earlier than usual and got dressed quickly. I excitedly stepped downstairs. Usually, I would let Ludwig in earlier than opening hours when I have morning shifts. That way, we could have time to ourselves because we both are busy most of the time. If I'm not busy, it's most likely he is with work. I've tried asking him to take a day off so we can go out together with no distractions but he has denied every time. I understand though. He is a hard working man. And maybe it's for the best since it would be dangerous if I get close to him.

I waited for a little while down at the café and sat on a stool. He usually didn't take long to show up. But then a few minutes passed and he still didn't show up. For some reason, I started to get worried and frowned. I tried to distract myself by preparing for when the shop actually opens and wiped down the tables. Time flew by a little and that's when I hear the knock. I dropped the rag and instantly headed to the door and opened, "Ve~ Ludwig! I thought you weren't coming! I was getting worried too because you usually tell me if you won't be here and I-"

I stopped when I saw his face. He had bandages on his cheek and jawline and forehead and a couple bruises on the other side. I felt my heart twist at the sight of Ludwig being injured.

He looked down and then slowly glanced at me, "Feliciano, don't overreact-"

I ignored him and instantly reached out to touch his face, which he responded by wincing in pain when I did. I pulled my hand back and instead took his hand and noticed the small bandage on his fingers as well. I pulled him towards a table and made him sit. I sat across from him and stared at him with concern until I finally said, "What happened?"

Ludwig sighed deeply and ran his hand through his hair, "Some ghouls ambushed me when I was walking home a couple nights ago,"

I held back a gasp and tried to not say anything until he was finished.

"I was able to fight back, since I don't leave home without my case,"

I glanced down at the floor, next to his feet was his silver suitcase and a dangerous weapon that could kill a ghoul.

It took me a while to look up at him again and asked, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I knew you would be worried,"

"Of course I'm worried!" I didn't held back, "And you're still going back to work?!"

"I have to," Ludwig didn't hesitate, "It's because of things like this that I work for the CCG. So nobody could be harmed by those monsters,"

I look away and subconsciously bit my lip nervously. Ludwig noticed and took my hand, "Feli, look at me,"

I didn't dare to, because I was on the verge of tears. Not only because I was scared that I almost lost him, but also because I was scared he would hate me if he found out what I truly was.

"Feliciano, don't cry,"

"But you almost died..."

"But I'm alright and I'm here. Do you care about me that much?"

"Yes," I responded instantly and looked at him.

I noticed that he didn't expect me to answer so quickly and he got flustered, "Oh..."

I couldn't help but giggle at his expression. I didn't know how, but I managed to fall in love with him and I was terrified of that fact. I tried not to but I did a really poor job of it.

He cleared his throat, "You're not upset?"

"Of course I am... I just want you to be careful, Luddy. I know you don't want me to freak out about you but I can't help it,"

Ludwig stayed quiet but then smiled softly at me, "Can I make it up to you by taking a day off tomorrow and spend it with you?"

"Really?!" My eyes widened and I sat up.

He nodded shyly.

"Wait," I paused my excitement and decided to take a risk, "Do you mean like a date?"

I could tell that Ludwig got nervous and his face turned red slightly, "Um-, I-, Well, I wanted to but I understand if you don't-"

"In that case, I accept," I said excitedly to cut him off. He smiled and sighed in relief. I was so happy and leaned forward to kiss him on the cheek that wasn't injured. I mostly did it to see his reaction, which was priceless.

"Feliciano?" A voice from the stairway made us both look quickly towards it. At the bottom of the stairs, there was Lovino with an expression I could not read. I felt my heart stop for a moment in panic.

"Fratello?"

"It's not opening time for another half hour," he said in a cold tone while glaring at Ludwig.

I quickly stood up to say something but Ludwig interrupted, "Sorry, I was stopping by to talk to Feliciano,"

"Yeah?" Lovino scoffed, "Can't you read the sign? We're not open yet,"

I gave Lovino a look before turning back to Ludwig, "I'm sorry about my brother. He doesn't mean it,"

"It's alright. It kind of reminded me of my brother," Ludwig said sincerely, "I was about to leave anyway,"

"You don't want coffee?"

"No, it's fine. I'll see you tomorrow then?"

I nodded, feeling happy again about the date. He smiled at me and said his goodbye to me and Lovino. Once he left, Lovino crossed his arms and tapped his foot impatiently, waiting for me to say something. When I didn't, he rolled his eyes and started to drag me upstairs into his room.

I gulped in fear of what he saw or heard from our conversation.
