The next day's morning flew by and before I knew it, it was lunch. Stiles, Scott, Isaac and Jackson weren't here because of some extra lacrosse thing so I sat with Lydia and Allison.

"We really need to have some sort of distraction." Lydia said.

"I agree." Allison said immediately.

"How about a girl night?" Lydia proposed.

I looked a bit skeptical. That was something like a sleepover and beauty salon thing right? No thanks.

"Oh come on. It'll be fun! And we can check out that new haunted house thing." Allison said.

"It's set. We'll meet tonight at the haunted house. Bring your pyjama's." Lydia stated before I could protest.

I skipped the last few classes. It wasn't like I was learning anything. Most of it was stuff I'd already learned back home and the other stuff was way too advanced for me.

I didn't go back home though. I went to Derek.

I'd been freaking out ever since they'd agreed on a haunted house. Why did it had to be a haunted house?! I can handle boredom, I can't handle jumpscares!

When I opened the door to the loft, I immediately saw Derek. He was sitting on the couch, reading one of his books.

"Hey?" he said a bit confused. "Aren't you supposed to be at school?"

"Yeah, but that's not the problem." I said as I closed the door behind me.

"Lydia and Allison want to go to a haunted house." I said.

"Okay... So?"

"Those things are supposed to be scary right? I've never been in one. What if I turn?"

Derek closed his book and began to calm me down. "Just remember. It's not real. But you do have a point." he said while scratching his chin. "I'll shadow you. If anything goes wrong I'll be able to get you out."

I nodded and calmed down.

Nothing to worry about. Derek is gonna get you through this. It won't be scary.

"Thank you." I said grateful. I knew that it would also influence him if I fucked up but it really felt like he was doing this for me.

"There she is." Allison said looking at Lydia.

"Let's go!" Lydia said and immediately passed us.

We'd been waiting for her to show up for at least 20 minutes. But suuuure she has better things to do right?

We approached the haunted house. Only the thought of a house full of jumpscares got my heart to beat a little faster. I let Allison and Lydia walk in front of me. They payed for the tickets and we went in.

"Liz." Derek whispered. He was a few meters behind us and since I had werewolf hearing, he didn't had to shout.

"Liz, calm down. Nothing has happened yet."

I nodded and took a deep breath. It helped a little but not much.

We walked down the first corridor into a dark hall. My heart began to speed up again. This was not going well...

I thought about just closing my eyes until I realized how stupid that would be. I can't walk through the haunted house without my sight.

I tried to focus on Lydia and Allison. They were making jokes with each other. They might've fooled each other into thinking that they weren't scared, but I could hear their heartbeats. They were going like crazy.

I took the next step and saw out of the corner of my eye a spider. I had no idea if it was real or not but it definitely didn't help my situation.

"Liz, you're a werewolf. You could take anything in here that tries to scare you." Derek whispered to comfort me.

"Yeah right." I mumbled silently.

I quickly walked past the spider and joined Allison and Lydia. They were also a bit freaked out but kept a straight face. And neither one of them was even close to my level of freaked out.

Lydia and Allison turned around the corner. I followed them. This hall was even darker than before. Lydia took a step forward.

Suddenly something flew our way. Lydia and Allison started screaming and I couldn't control myself anymore. My claws and fangs had grown within a second and I felt the coldness around my eyes.

I freaked out.

I turned in front of Allison and Lydia!

I quickly turned around and walked around the corner. I saw Derek standing there. I hid in his chest and hid my hands from plain sight.

"Derek, I can't control it." I whispered in his chest.

He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me to a hidden door. It was a small empty room. Derek made me sit down and began to talk to me.

"Liz, it's not real."

"I know!"

"Allison and Lydia didn't even see you."

"How do you know?"

"Their heartbeats. Plus they would've done something if they'd seen you."

"Makes sense." I said but it didn't calm me down. Derek sat next to me.

"Come here." he said and held his hands open. I scooted closer to him and he wrapped his arms around me.

"Place your head on my chest." he said.

I was willing to try anything to get me to shift back so I did it.

"Focus on my heartbeat."

It was beating way slower than mine but not as slow as the other heartbeats. I kept my ear against his chest. He was right. After a while my heartbeat began to match his. My canines retracted and my claws disappeared.

"Thank you." I whispered to him.

"What for?"

"Being here."
