I silently sneaked towards the door. From there I would be able to see who'd entered Derek's loft. I'd already tried sniffing but there were too much familiar scents around me to find anything weird. I thought Derek would try to stop me or pull me back but instead he followed me. Damien on the other hand stood there frozen.

When I was 1 meter away from the door, Derek did what I thought he'd do; pull me back. But instead of sneaking in or being ready to attack, he just casually walked in. Did he knew something I didn't? Maybe I didn't sniff well enough? Did he hear something?

I quickly followed him into the room.

"Ah there you are." Peter said casually to Derek.

"Yes and where have you been?"

"Business trip. I thought you knew."

"Made any good business deals?"

"I'd say so."

"Made some new allies?" Derek tried again.

"Perhaps." Peter said after thinking about it.

What's that smell? It's vaguely familiar but not really.

"What did you discuss?" I asked tired of their American way of avoiding things.

"I've been home for less than a minute and you guys are already interrogating me. I haven't even gotten a drink yet."

"You don't seem surprised that Liz is back." Derek noted.

"Ah yes," a Dutch accent said coming from the door "That is because of me. I told him."

A tall pale man in his forties walked in. His black half long hair was greasy and neatly combed. He was thin without any muscles and wore a dark grey suit which fit him perfectly.

"Hallo, I am Gerrit van der Dijk" he said with an obvious Dutch hard 'g'.

All the hairs in my neck stood up straight. Without even realizing it I made myself a little smaller and growled. Not in an angry way, just defensive.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to me but I wasn't gonna let him out of my sight.

"What's wrong?" Derek asked me worriedly.

"Vampire." I growled without letting him out of my sight. I didn't even dare to blink.

"What?"

"He's a vampire."

"Don't fret. I'm the one that helped you." Gerrit said diplomatically.

"How?" I said distrustful.

"Je dacht toch niet dat je zelf was ontsnapt? You didn't really think that you were able to escape on your own, right?" He said disapprovingly.

"I didn't get any help. I escaped by myself." I growled back.

I saw Derek frown in confusion at Gerrit's Dutch but I wasn't going to explain it. There was a high level enemy in the room! The others might be stupid enough to drop their guard but I'm not gonna get killed this easily.

"Dacht je echt dat ze je zo maar weg lieten gaan? Did you really think that you were just allowed to walk out on them?"

I growled silently since I knew that he was right. My escape had been too easy. I'd even thought it back then but I'd pushed it away for the time being. Apparently time caught up with me.

"Dus ben je hier om me mee terug te nemen? Me te vermoorden? So are you here to take me back? To kill me?" I asked.

"Nee, integendeel ik- No, on the contrary I-"

"Keep it understandable." Peter groaned annoyed.

"I'm here because I've helped you. You see, I wanted to talk to you. You must be shocked by the things you must've seen in Holland by my kind."

He paused and looked at me for any form of confirmation but I kept glaring at him ready to defend myself. I'd seen vampires, they work very slyly and I was not gonna fall for it.

"We would like to fight them, take back our home." he explained.

"We?"

Derek stepped a bit closer to me and subtly stroked my arm, trying to calm me down. It didn't work as he'd planned since my eyes never even wavered from my target.

"A quite large group of outcasts." Gerrit verified. "Each and every one of them dedicated to the goal of taking our home back-"

"And now you're taking a look at your latest investment?" I said cutting him off. A shocked expression fell over his face but didn't quite reach his eyes.

"Of course not! We're just hoping you would help. If you could just-"

"No."

Judging by Peter's fascinated expression every time I opened my mouth, I assumed that I wasn't fucking up some sort of business deal for him.

"You wouldn't have to do much just-"

"No."

"Why not?!" Gerrit said quickly losing his temper. Any tension I might've lost in my muscles quickly shot back. Don't make a vampire mad, huh?

"It's fine by me if you're in such a hurry to get yourself killed but don't take me down with you."

"You don't know our forces." Gerrit said proudly. "We're with more people than you'd think."

"Yeah and you don't know any recent developments." I quickly guessed. "Even if you'd bring twice- maybe even thrice- their forces, you'd still lose. They're well organized, well stocked, heavily guarded and professionally trained. You. Don't. Stand. A. Chance." I said.

Gerrit became more and more angry. I could see his hands beginning to shake slightly and his eyes became a tint more red. I saw Derek frown a bit and tilt his head subtly. Was he trying to find a heartbeat? Yeah good luck with that.

Gerrit took a deep breath, straightened his back and nodded sideways, instantly losing all the anger he had. "You'll make up your mind." he said with a creepy grin and turned his back to us.
